We fell upon this place looking for somewhere to eat and fortune smiled down on us. The service was fast and friendly (family owned and operated), and the food was fabulous. Prices were perfect. I think reservations are preferred, but they were able to slide us in on a busy Christmas Market evening, and we're so grateful they did. You won't find a better meal in Leipzig.

We ate outside on a warm July night. Service as other reviews have said was pretty slow. Now I understand that the local scene likes to linger and enjoy the meal and so do I so it wasn't about that. It was hard to get attention to order more drinks, dessert or pay. The ambience is really nice and the restaurant itself looks very traditional. The food was okay but I wouldn't go out of my way to return there.

I came here mainly to get out of the rain and visit the restrooms... And out of common courtesy I huddled under one of the umbrellas and ordered an iced coffee. Service was, nonetheless friendly and efficient. In fact, I had a little longer to sup my drink and do some essential people watching until the other members of my party found me and we continued our rapid tour of this old East German city.

The "Allerlei" sounds tempting: "The best of forest, water and field: crayfish tails, young vegetables, morels, crayfish butter..." What I got was quite sad: five miniature shrimps sold to me as scampi. They were out of crayfish tails, I was told. The shrimps were super small and tasted like nothing. They were roasted, cooked in garlic butter or tartet in any way. Eventually I got the bill and got charged and 0,90 Euro for "the kitchen's effort". Honestly? I won't eat here again.

We thought this looked like a traditional German pub but found it rather touristy and ordinary. Food was tasteless and unexciting.

I'm very happy that we ended up going to this gasthaus in the centre of Leipzig. They close a bit early - I think they told us to finish up at about 21 - but the atmosphere, service and food was really good - a genuine German meal, I would say, and large portions too. I had the Leipziger-something (mixed meats) and I very much enjoyed that. Oh, and the appfel struddel afterwards. Thumbs up!

They couldn't make up their minds whether there was a free table or not, after waiting 10/15 mins we were shown to a table, a bit of a fuss to start with. A friendly waitress than came and took our order, mainly all fish with a lovely strudel to follow, washed down with a typical German riesling, an absolutely wonderful meal, would have given 5 stars were it not for the start of our experience here at Reinhardts.

It's a nice place with nice seats outside close to Nikolaikirche. Food was good. You can order local food & beer.

This restaurant is housed in a building opposite the Nikolaikirche and gives little notice of what it is. I seem to remember being told that it used to house the choirboys for the church, but am willing to be corrected. Regardless, it is now an excellent restaurant serving mainly German food - and remember, German food comes in LARGE portions.

We had two meals here. A quick snack after visiting Nikolaiskirche and dinner before the ballet at the Opera House. As pointed out by one reviewer, service was a bit slow. One time we had to move inside because of high winds and enjoyed the indoor space, converted from the former Nikolais school. There was a Wagner exhibit for £3 that we missed because of time constraints. It has a great location, right on the square next to the church and the food was solid if not outstanding.

We sat down here, 90 minutes before our concert in the Nikolaikirche, just across the square. Service was so slow that we could not finish our lunch, before dashing into our concert. Food was good - matjes herring salads, but the service was dreadful. We felt sorry for the waiters - too few of them, and clearly not supported by an understaffed kitchen.

We called here for lunch and asked the waitress to recommend typically local food. She was very helpful and the food she recommended was very much enjoyed. Highly recommended!

We got to the restaurant and were shown to our seats, ordered the drinks and food as normal. Within three minutes the starters arrived and within five minutes of finishing those the main courses arrived. The food was good but the meal was over before we'd had half our drinks, then the waiter kept the change without being told to. Weird

Bad experience, that’s how I will describe that night. I called like 2 hours before to make a reservation for 3 people (and it was a special night as my 2 friends drove all the way from England to see me), the woman who picked up the phone was very friendly and told me okay your table will Be waiting for you sir. But once we arrived, we literally stayed standing for like a solid 10 mins. No one came to ask us what we wanted, waiters were running from place to place and it was like we were not to notice. I ended up going to the cashier myself and asked about our table, of course he couldn’t speak English and we had to wait for that same woman I spoke with on the phone to come and talk to us. In end she came, we sat down after like 25 mins, (keeping in mind that there’s not a big space between all the tables so it was really uncomfortable to stand between all this people while they were eating..) We ended up sitting in a table for 4, our waiter this young guy brought me and one of my friends the wrong order but we accepted to be nice (then it tasted bad so we couldn’t really eat). At the end of the day, it was just a bad experience. Maybe it’s our luck, or maybe it’s how they are with non German people :) And yeah, after we left we went to the Italian restaurant on the other side (behind the church) and had a delicious pizza.

5 of us, 2 grandparents, 2 parents and an 11 year old enjoyed dinner here last night. The cheese soup was very tasty with onions and carrots. They offer their soups in 3 sizes so you can have it as a starter or main course. My father-in-law enjoyed the sirloin beef roast. My mother enjoyed her spinach and feta pie. My daughter loves baked potatoes so her cheese and herb sour cream baked potato was perfect for her. I am not sure why they weren’t busier because we had a wonderful meal at a very fair price. And pleasant service. English menus available.
