HISTORY

Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School situated within the heart of Barangay Doña Aurora, District IV of Quezon City with a total land area of 7,835 sq. meters bounded from west in Cordillera St, east of Naning Ponce St.; Luskot and Sto. Tomas Streets in south and north respectively.

It was formerly known as Santol-Galas Elementary School during the pre-world war. The school then, was under the supervision of the Division of City Schools of Manila until it was turned over to the Division of Quezon City in 1948.

Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School was formerly a two-room barrio school during the pre-war and was known as SantolGalasElementary School.  It was under the division of Mr. Benito Pangilinan as Division Superintendent and Mr. Figuracion as Supervisor of Galas.  The school was under Mr. InigoPendon who was assigned as teacher-in-charge.

During the Japanese occupation, the nearby municipalities around the city of Manila and Santol-Galas Elementary School were no exception.  Thus, the administration and the supervision of the school shifted from the Division of Caloocan to the Division of Manila, classes were opened and this school became a branch of Burgos Elementary School with Mrs. Nieves Argonza as Principal.  Later on, Mr. Enrique Carretero replaced Mrs. Argonza.  The school was closed in the later part of 1944.

In 1945, when Manila was liberated, the school was opened and classes were re-organized under the leadership of Mrs. Catalina P. Gloria, a teacher of Santol-Galas Elementary School and a resident of the area, upon the instruction of Mr. Marcelino Bautista, acting City Superintendent of Manila during that time.

In 1946, with the help of Mr. HipolitoYamson, the barrio lieutenant of the community and at the same time the PTA President Mrs. Gloria succeeded in acquiring adjacent lot with an area of about 500 sq.m.

In the same year the school rented the following annexes:  Tatalon Annex, Unang Hakbang, Tiongson, Pasamba, Mapa, Cargo, Hermoso, Sociego, Lapak, Mauricio and Enriquez Annexes providing a total of 29 rooms to address the problem of increasing enrolment.

In 1948, by virtue of Republic Act No. 33 signed on July 17, 1948, Quezon City officially became the nation’s capital and also expanded by 8 hectares.  Since the site of Santol-GalasElementary School is a part of Quezon City, the schools supervision was shifted to the Division of Quezon City.  It was also on the same year when GOSOC lots with an area of 1,500 sq.m. were acquired through the help of Mr. Santos Diaz.

In 1950, when Mayor Norberto Amoranto took over, the name of Santol-Galas Elementary School was changed to its present name:  AURORA A. QUEZON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.  This is in honor to the late Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon, the first lady of the late president Manuel L. Quezon, who envisioned the creation of new city, Quezon City (a new city named after him who conceived it and envisioned its possibilities).

It was in 1950 when the decision came to change the name of the school to Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in honor of the late Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon. Since then the school continued to progress with the following administrators assigned in succession after Mrs. Catalina P. Gloria
