It is not your fine dining but perfect for a good meal. Recommend by where we were staying and very satisfied with the food and service. Great value for money and that’s why I am leaving a review.

Very pleasant service and overall the food hit the mark for us. We had asked our hotel concierge for the best souvlaki and gyros and he said we must try O Thanasis in the Monastiraki neighborhood. It was wonderful and definitely better than we had elsewhere. Meats were cooked to perfection, mildly flavored. The tzatziki is a must add to your dish. The Greek salad was delightful- oh feta😋 . We ate an early dinner as we had skipped lunch that day. The seating is mostly outside so tourists and locals were passing by, good people watching.

Central, informal, inexpensive, busy.
Food was pretty basic but basic doesn’t have to be a negative. Unfortunately the Greek salad was ‘tired’. Tomatoes were squashy. My companion said they’d eaten better kebabs. Tztatziki was thick and creamy though.
Typical tourist eatery.
Staff too busy to be attentive.

It was amazing food with very reasonable price... The only issue is crowed around the place... Don't set in a table in first raw direct to street...

Very big restaurant in a good central location. Limited menu, but good food at reasonable prices and decent portions. Waiters were friendly and helpful - our waiter asked us to move tables because he thought it was going to rain and we would get dripped on if we didn't move, and he was right!

The kebabs are the best, flavourful and juicy. They timely serve their food. The prices are reasonable too.
I have nothing to take away from this place!

This restaurant was suggested by a family friend and I am glad we chose to go here. I had the chicken gyro and it was delicious. The pita bread and french fries was also good. The restaurant is also in a nice area with a lot of shops, restaurants and it was overall a nice experience.

Great food, good service even with a busy restaurant
Half portion, tomato salad and a pita bread was more than enough for two

We went twice, and that says a lot. Both times I took the mix gyros platter, which is absolutely delicious. The staff is very fast and also friendly.
Only the second time, I'm not sure what happened. Let's say it was a misunderstanding: my husband ordered the Yoghurt Kebab (also very delicious) and the waitress asked, if he wanted 5 or 6 pieces and he said 5. In the end we had to pay an extra 2.50 for the fifth, apparently it's usually only 4. So that's that.

I'm a Brazilian tourism agent and I'm in Athens for the fourth time. I travel with senior groups and I was recommended the restaurant because it was among the 150 most legendary in the world. Among the 150 nominees, I know more than 10, but I certainly wouldn't go back or recommend the restaurant O Thanasis, Athens, not even to my worst enemy. I sat at the table with a friend and we ordered two Mythos draft beers. A waiter, whose name unfortunately I don't know, after the two beers had been served, approached us with great rudeness, saying that we could only sit down to eat, that the restaurant was not for drinks. Not on the menu that this is the norm at the highly regarded restaurant. The guy could even make the approach, but in at least a more polite way. We just wanted to have the most legendary experience, have a beer and after a few minutes, order the appetizers and then dinner. A grade is an indication of 0. I suggest the manager gives training to this guy who acts against a title that is so difficult to receive and maintain.

By far the best souvlaki we had in Athen! We happened to stumble by this place late at night, and was surprised by how busy it was with both locals and tourists. The prices were reasonable and the service was friendly and helpful. Best of all, their pita bread was light and all the meats are delicious, great for a light snack or a full meal. We went back the second night!

Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
