Desperados III

Desperados III 2 (1)

If you like stealth and real-time strategy games, you’ll absolutely love Desperados III.

Developed by Mimimi Games, who also delivered the excellent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Desperados III places you in control of a rag-tag team. Each having their own motivations, you’ll have to make use of each and every one of their unique skills to get the job done without being detected in this crazy tale set in the Wild West. John Copper, for example, can throw his knife like a pro, enabling mid-distance stealth kills. Kate, on the other hand, can easily distract any guards you come across, distracting their attention from what other members of the team are doing.

Thanks to the variety of missions on offer, and the various team members you’re given access to, Desperados III is entertaining from beginning to end. So, if you’re after the best stealth games on PC, consider this a must-have.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid 5

For Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latest, and quite possibly last, mainline entry in the much-loved Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima changed the formula up a bit. He embraced the open-world format.

Once again placing players in control of Snake, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s open world design gives players more tactical freedom than ever before. Honestly, play it, and you’ll often find yourself blown away by the freedom you have when it comes to completing your goals. It still looks great, too, despite being more than five years old.

Whether you’ve played a previous Metal Gear Solid game or not, if you love stealth you should certainly give Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain your time of day. It’s one of the best stealth games ever made, never mind one of the best stealth games on PC.

Hitman 3

Hitman III

The final entry in IO Interactive’s World of Assassination trilogy is here, and it’s Agent 47’s best outing yet.

Hitman 3 offers up six new locations for Agent 47 to creatively kill his targets in. Even better, five of them are more varied and expansive than ever before, and they all look absolutely sublime. It’s those who own the previous two Hitman games that will get the most out of Hitman 3 though; the ability to import their locations into the game means you can play all three campaigns in one place. That’s with graphical enhancements and new features, too.

If you love stealth games, Hitman 3 is an absolute must-have. You’re given so much freedom to achieve your goals that you’ll return to each location time after time, trying new things and seeking out fresh opportunities. It might just the best stealth game on PC right now.

Dishonored 2

Okay, so thanks to Dishonored 2‘s combat system and supernatural abilities, you can play it like an action game if you wish. When you finally finish a mission and see the results screen, however, you’ll feel like you’ve been playing it wrong.

It may not want to admit it, but Dishonored 2, like its predecessor, is a stealth game through and through. The difference between it and most of the other games on this list is that if you do mess up, it’s generally not the end of the world. And what a stealth game it is. The levels are expansive, filled with collectibles to find and side-quests to complete if you want to stay within them a little longer. And there are so many ways to achieve your goals.

If you want to get the most out of Dishonored 2, perhaps play the first Dishonored beforehand. Don’t feel like you need to, though; Dishonored 2 is still accessible if you jump straight into it. And once you’re done, if you want more you can jump into Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. They’re all great stealth games that really shine on PC.

Aragami

If you fondly remember old-fashioned stealth games like Tenchu, Aragami mighty just be right up your street.

This third-person stealth game places you in the shoes of an undead assassin, summoned by the mysterious Yamiko to free her from her captors. On your journey you’ll travel through multiple areas, and will need to stick to the shadows and carefully observe guard patterns to remain undetected. Mess up by either be seen, or leaving a body just laying around in plain sight, and things will get much more difficult for you.

You have some nifty abilities at your disposal to make things a little easier, however. And you can find scrolls that grant you skill points, allowing you to unlock new skills or enhance those you already have. Needless to say, Aragami feels like a blast from the past, but in the best possible way. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but it’s definitely one of the best stealth games on PC.
