I was only 4 when Space Station arrived in IMAX so I missed it on the big screen, but the film is still an absolute visual spectacle and one of the better documentaries they have produced. While watching it on television, it can’t quite capture the same allure as that famous massive screen experience, but all the same, the outer space imagery on display is spectacular. This film documents space station work and living with smart direction, and while it may not be as cinematically gripping as a fictional tale like Gravity or Interstellar, the fact that this is all real and out there might just send tingles down your spine.

First time seeing this as a space-obsessed kid. While viewing it at home can’t compare with 3D IMAX, the 4K transfer is stunning.
Was really touched by the astronaut who said that from the ISS, you can’t see borders. You feel more connected to humankind.
this is pretty cool! there’s this one segment in the middle where the narration cuts out and just music plays??? not sure if this was on purpose or just from the video i ended up watching. i liked this one more than the cgi docu bc cruise actually narrates most of it. also the “i’m a diver, and EVERY diver knows” ahhh freak stop flexing
This shows that Tom Cruise can narrate documentary movies SO well!
Also, I highly recommend getting the IMAX Enhanced 4K UHD Blu-ray of this documentary movie from Mill Creek Entertainment because it LOOKED so beautiful on IMAX Enhanced 4K.
An absolutely stunning visual feast in IMAX, showcasing not only what is possible, but what COULD be. Tom Cruise's narration is practically dripping with "I can't wait to go up and shoot a movie in space" excitement.
Space Station 3D was my second experience in an IMAX theater (in our local science center) and I remember being distinctly blown away by the gulf of space, moreso than the sweeping shots of the ocean in Mysteries of Egypt (which was apparently, all the way back in the '98, gawd).
I still remember flinching at the debris got blown across the launch pad when the shuttle began its take off. What a fucking experience, man.
The 1 star rating is simply based on the actual documentary. Tom Cruise as a narrator is super meh. You aren't going to watch this film for the story, you'll watch it for the picture. This was shot in IMAX and in 3D, later released on 4K Ultra HD. But with that being said the picture (on the 4K) is crazy good. Crazy. So crisp, so clean. All of the space, NASA equipment, and astronauts shots are awesome. Worth it for that alone.
loved the 10+ minutes of the copyright notice presented in every conceivable language on earth at the end of the film.

Watched it again, with the commentary this time. I might have liked it better with the commentary than the original narration. It's Toni the director and astronaut Marsha Ivins, who appears in the film. Hearing about how they made it, and how the astronauts and cosmonauts were excited about the filming, was really interesting. And maybe I knew a bunch of the stuff in the original narration, as a bit of a space station fan.
The 'nauts (I can't keep typing that out) executed shots that Toni didn't think they could probably get. And they did not have many takes to work with - often one. The IMAX camera apparently has a fairly small capacity, and they have limited supplies…
