The entry to the song was a prime heart pounding sound, the voice definitely classic to Mr. Hamilton, deep soul carving wonderment, a sound missed in today's genre of R/B, another missing link to this old heart.

This is an outstanding collection. It had many songs which I only had on 45 RPM. I have enjoyed it very much. Thanks for making it available.

Roy Hamilton had been, and lives on thru such a wonderful collection of his music, as one of the very finest singers ever in music history. His rich, soulful vocals, and impressively eclectic capabilities, singing with all of his heart and soul, is rather addictive. Regrettably, he passed at the untimely age of only forty. While he did not receive the accolades, which he so righteously deserved, and had gone largely unnoticed during much of the "Rock 'n' Roll" era(especially on radio play), except for those superbly performed faster songs, as "Don't Let Go" and "You Can Have Her". He also endured the negative affects of overt racism, at that time. However, Roy Hamilton did certainly earn the genuine recognition, respect, and admiration of his peers in the music industry. Elvis Presley was indeed a huge admirer of and a friend to Roy Hamilton, and the feeling was undoubtedly mutual. In fact, during Elvis' "American Sound Studio" recording sessions, upon his comeback to live performing in 1969, Elvis would effort to visit this studio prior to his scheduled recording sessions there, since Roy Hamilton had been laying down vocal tracks for what was to be the last album of Roy's lifetime. Roy tragically suffered a massive and fatal heart attack within approximately five months or so afterwards. Elvis had even presented Roy with a song, as a gift, which he himself had planned to record, "Angelica". Elvis proudly took many photos of himself, along with his father, etc., with his musical hero. Elvis had invited Roy to attend his tremendously successful return to the Las Vegas stage, in July and August of 1969. Sadly, we lost Roy Hamilton in July 1969. Elvis Presley had earnestly intended to record "You Can Have Her" for his 1975 album, named "Today", and did sometimes perform this song while on tour throughout much of 1974. True, during the earlier years of Elvis Presley's career, he simply did not possess near the vocal capabilities to emulate Roy Hamilton; though, one of Elvis' earliest recordings was Hamilton's "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry Over You". As Elvis became unfortunately older and quite ill, his vocals had positively improved. Elvis certainly had done a fantastic job when passionately performing "Unchained Melody" during several of his latter concerts, in late 1976 thru mid 1977. On Elvis' 1976 album, "From Elvis Presley Boulevard", there is his recording of "Hurt", where he poignantly and powerfully sang, and added some movingly spoken words, which combined mostly an emulation of Roy Hamilton's version and also that of Timmy Yuro. Almost ten years prior, Elvis had recorded a beautiful version of Hamilton's first hit, "You'll Never Walk Alone", and it is remarkable that "The King Of Rock 'n' Roll" earned three(3) Grammy Awards, all for his studio and live performances of Gospel music. The clear reason for my details on Elvis Presley in this review of a Roy Hamilton song collection is to counteract those foolishly ignorant remarks made by some in their reviews/comments. In some reviews/comments, there are disgustingly ignorant characterizations of Elvis, one of Roy Hamilton's most ardent fans. Actually, I had initially become fully aware of Roy Hamilton's talent via the admiration that Elvis possessed for the great Roy Hamilton. Firstly, to harshly condescend the great entertainer and man that Elvis Presley was, in his own respective manner, simply reflects poorly upon those who make such unduly crude remarks. Secondly, it is in very bad taste to resort to nastily discrediting one great entertainer, so as to try and praise and show appreciation for another. I highly recommend this two-compact disc compilation, of which I own a few. "Roy Hamilton-Anthology" may not contain the definitive compilation of all his best recordings, which would probably be impossible; though, this two-cd set does contain a vast selection of most of this great, soulful artist's body of musical work. This compilation contains songs such as "You'll Never Walk Alone", "I Believe", "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry Over You", "Unchained Melody", "Hurt", etc. One song recorded by Nat King Cole, yet became most famous by Earl Grant, "At The End Of A Rainbow" is the last track on the second disc. No artist could even attempt to outdo the lovely, soothing manner of Roy Hamilton's version, and it's a pleasure to listen to it. It is hard-to-find, and to my knowledge may only be found here. Another lovely song, "Please Send Me Someone To Love", is hard-to-find anywhere else, and is so beautifully sung. This song should really be well known, and has a message that had been appropriate then, and is truly timeless. Examples of its lyrics are "Heaven, please send to all mankind...understanding and peace of mind. I'd show the world how to get along...peace will enter when hate is gone. But, if it's not asking too much, please send me someone to love". Yes, indeed, timeless words, perhaps even more applicable in today's world. This is a message we should all learn. This is likely my favorite collection of Roy Hamilton songs, and I do believe it's a must have for lovers of real music and of this superior artist. My second favorite cd is "The Definitive 1950's". Both are splendidly digitally re-mastered to provide an effect as if Roy Hamilton is still alive and recording his great songs now. Purchase this title for yourself, for a gift, etc. You, too, will be pleased to know from the uniquely gifted artist, Roy Hamilton.

Hey...Carl Anthony....are you serious when you say that Elvis tried his darnest to sound like Roy Hamilton and when you want to listen to the real deal you listen to Roy Hamilton? Please go and check in the nearest hospital my friend. Elvis listend to and liked Roy Hamilton as he did many other singers....yet if you are the least bit sensitive....you will realize the most important thing, and why Elvis was the greatest. In the songs Elvis sung...not 'Hound Dog' or rock'n roll...but in the 70's....there is feeling and passion that you will find nowhere else. Listen to 'Hurt' or 'Unchained Melody'...by Hamilton and then by Elvis. There is a huge difference. Someone said something very true one time : "Elvis could take any song and make you forget who sang it best before him". There is a reason why Hamilton got lost with all the others in that era...and why Elvis still reigns to this day. He was in contact with human suffering...and it all came out through his songs. If any of you out there agree with me....let me know. Thank you.
