Exeter golf wins Pippy O'Connor Championship

Angelina Gong parred 11 holes and birdied three others on her way to a 73, tied for the lowest score in the 92 player field.

The Exeter girls golf team defended its crown and repeated as winners of the Pippy O’Connor Girls Golf Classic. Big Red ran away from the 11-team field, putting together a combined score of 316 at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts, 16 shots ahead of runner-up Winsor School.

Angelina Gong ’24 was outstanding all day long and carded three birdies, including two on the back nine, against just three bogeys. Gong tied for medalist honors with a 1-over par 73. Emily Kim ’27, Sophia Xue ’27 and Ananya Ray ’26 each finished inside the top-20 in a field of 92 golfers, each shooting an 81.

“The key to the tournament was consistency of play from our team,” said Big Red head golf coach Bob Bailey. “Angelina set the pace and Ananya, Emily and Sophia saw strong performances come after some hard work put in on the course and on the practice range over the past six weeks.”

“This group is really tight knit and support each other,” said Bailey. “I am very proud of them and look forward to more great things in the future."
