Sam Adams Philadelphia City Paper Though American movies have largely discarded the family melodrama as passé, DDLJ reminds us of the genre's potency, its ability to stage social and generational conflicts. Nov 18, 2021 Full Review Charles Taylor Salon.com It's a flawed, contradictory movie -- aggressive and tender, stiff and graceful, clichéd and fresh, sophisticated and naive, traditional and modern. It's also, I think, a classic. Nov 18, 2021 Full Review Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Aditya Chopra's first film deep-sixed all ideas of rebellious young love, using NRI nostalgia as a hook, and gave Shah Rukh Khan his most successful film... Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Katherine Singh Refinery29 Seriously, 25 years after its release, it’s still being shown in a theater in Mumbai. If you’re going to watch one Bollywood movie, make it this one. Oct 4, 2022 Full Review Yash Tambe Film Companion One of the most-popular romances not only in India but worldwide, and rightly so. Nov 18, 2021 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha The Juggernaut Today, DDLJ is at once both intimately familiar and unmistakably of its era, a response to the influx of western culture into India in the 1990s and an attempt to center both progress and tradition in the very same breath. no t the north star of modern Indian rom-coms, Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Banana P An amazing movie starring actors such as Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Karan Johal and Amrish Puri. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (transl. "The Brave-Hearted Will Take the Bride"), also known by the initialism DDLJ, is a 1995 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film written and directed by Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut and produced by his father Yash Chopra. Released on 20 October 1995, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians, who fall in love during a vacation through Europe with their friends. Raj tries to win over Simran's family so the couple can marry, but Simran's father has long since promised her hand to his friend's son. The film was shot in India, London, and Switzerland, from September 1994 to August 1995. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Niloy D Best romantic story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Rohit S The theme of old transitions vs new freedoms was very well handled; I think this movie did a good job of showing how old traditions aren't just repressive, and family and honor are important, but maybe new traditions let us honor ourselves and our family more than old traditions could. I wish they talked about Preethi and Kajul's being hurt more towards the end of the movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review rohit m i love this movie , songs and the story accept the actress... i have a bone to pick with the director couldn't they just have casted someone else as simran . Well i as an indian i cant bring myself to the fact that kajol acts i have seen her movies sorry but she cant act there was so many other actresses in india in 1990s who could have acted more better than her this movie is only great because of the story, songs , Amrish Puri and last but not the least Shah Rukh Khan... director has done very well in showing how much girl get affected just because of arrange marriages , how they have to kill their dream for the sake society but kajol failed to show it i had no sympathy for her i was sympathetic to simran but i can feel that kajol was not simran kajol was just as usual kajol ... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Deepak S This is my all time favorite movie and I never get bored of it. I watched it over 20 times so far and I still feel it fresh. There is some magic in this movie, SRK and Kajol mesmerizes the audience. Marvelous! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
