Visited Houghton for the U.S. Cross Country National Championships last week and stayed at the Country Inn & Suites. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, but the staff were some of the best I have encountered in all of my travels. They were friendly, professional, and appeared to genuinely care about my lodging experience. The housekeepers were diligent and did a great job with the upkeep of my room. The gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond when I "misplaced" my groceries (a rather embarrassing situation involving 3 bags of food and the wrong room number). My only complaint is the inconsiderate snowmobile riders who were racing and revving their engines in the parking lot of the hotel at 11pm--had I a bullhorn and their room number, I would have liked to given them a wakeup call at 5am outside their windows. So rude.

Don’t get me wrong. This place is spotless, marked for social distancing and signage is replete in requiring masks. Hand sanitizer stations are plentiful and the staff is very helpful.
My lack of highest rating is due to 2 things:
1. Breakfast - this is a “pack and take to your room” setup. Except for hard boiled eggs and a little fresh fruit, the sugar content of most items is too high for people who need to monitor carbs. Selections do make an effort for people in general. Did not work at all for me. I bought protein drinks and drank tea.
2. This one is a little more serious. There was no prior notification that rooms would only be serviced every third day. Therefore, no trash emptied; no towels changed; no toilet paper replenished. We needed to obtain plastic bags for trash and will need to request new towels and toilet paper later today. All this at full nightly rates for the hotel
If services are reduced and I fully understand the desire to do so with COVID, then the room rate should also be reduced. This stay has been challenging at best. I love this hotel- just not right now.

I stayed at this Country Inn & Suites in Houghton for a weekend in August 2020. It was my first time visiting Houghton and staying at a Country Inn & Suites. The location is quite convenient, as it is only a 3-minute drive from the historic downtown of Houghton, and the hotel itself is located within walking distance to several grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and a Walmart. The hotel was not fancy but it seems rather new and is immaculately maintained. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious, and everything appeared to be very clean. I used the guest laundry facilities, which are quite convenient for people who need to wash clothes following hiking and kayaking.
The room rates are a little high but not unreasonable.
The only minor complaint I have is that the construction of the walls and floors seemed a bit thin, as I was able to hear noise from the guest rooms next door to mine and hear the guests walking in the room above. This was not a major issue, however, and so I would return to this property again if I am ever in Houghton in the future.

This was a nice change from the smaller Mom and Pop hotels we had stayed at during the week
The place looked reasonably new
The room was large and appeared clean. The bed was very nice with a good firm mattress.
The TV was huge and had a good selection of channels
Room lighting was good and there were plenty of outlets for charging items
The AC worked well and was quiet.
The bathroom was large and very clean
Everything worked well- nothing broken or taped together
They had a nice pool, but sadly due to Covid rules the hot tub was closed.
They didn’t have a dining area, but they did have a grab N go breakfast
I would recommend staying here

We spent one night here as part of a road trip through parts of Michigan, and these was a wonderful hotel for the night. It is part of a chain, so big and lacking character, but hugely comfortable and conveniently located. We especially enjoyed the free cookies they had available at the desk when we checked in.
The room and bed were very comfortable, and after spending time on the Keeweenaw Peninsula with pretty minimal cell coverage, we enjoyed the fast Wifi. The hotel was located within easy driving distance of multiple restaurant options, and the price was very reasonable. Overall we were happy with our choice and would gladly stay here again.

Hotel was cleaned and sanitized often. Room was very clean and comfortable. Free breakfast had individually wrapped items, like breakfast sandwiches, muffins, whole fruit, cereal, and juices. Everyone wore masks. Front desk had plexiglass and check-in was contactless. We brought our dog, who was allowed to enter and exit through one side door. They suppied bags to clean up. We will be returning.

We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in. Front desk clerk, maids, breakfast attendants ( they just started serving a full breakfast ) were doing their best to help. They made us feel at home and at the same time were professional. Our stay was quiet and relaxing. Bed was one of the most comfortable ever and upholstery new. Bathroom was very nice and shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Business center and lobby were nice and I was able to use a computer and a printer. The indoor hot tub was very relaxing, pool a little cold, but refreshing on a hot day. WIFI signal was good and everything was in perfect working order in our room and on property. The only thing I would do is change the furniture in a room. Desk, dresser, night stands are old. It didn't have an impact on our overall stay, but it would be nice to see it updated.

Hotel wait staff incredibly courteous/helpful/informative.

Small exercise room with two treadmills, one elliptical machine, some weights, and TV.
Pool area with restroom and shower, small pool, hot tub, towels provided in pool area.

Restaurant next door, restaurants/shops numerous, and very close by.
Very nice place to stage from, if planning a trip to the Houghton/Hancock area, only about 5-10 minutes or less to downtown Houghton.

We had a wonderful stay here. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. We could choose what individually wrapped items to take for breakfast in the walk through breakfast instead of getting a bag with items in it that we may not have a desired taste for and would go to waste. Room was very clean. If we were in this area again...we would definitely stay here. Thank you for your hospitality.

"Although individual hotel policies may vary, most hotels have a minimum age requirement of 21 years old. Please call the hotel directly prior to your arrival to make any necessary arrangements. Direct hotel phone numbers can be found in your confirmation email or on the respective hotel information page."
Reasoning - Because hotels have obviously have had issues with under 21 guests in the past. Pick from any number of reasons.
That said, call the hotel directly as stated above. Ask them what their age policy is.
I received a call before my stay indicating it was closed. Please check with them to confirm because it has been several weeks since I stayed there. Enjoy! It is a very nice place to stay!
The hotel is a couple miles south of downtown Houghton, off a four-lane highway, at the back of a wide strip mall area. There are wide, well-lit parking lots all around the hotel, so I suspect trailer parking is never a problem. There is also a good local restaurant / bar right next door, several chain restaurants on the highway. I'm not a snowmobiler, but know there are several trail systems in the area. Very nice hotel with a good breakfast.
There are mini refrigerators & microwaves in all of our guest rooms.
