Pitt forward William Jeffress dunks against Syracuse on Dec. 30, 2023.

William Jeffress, who enrolled at Pitt as a 17-year-old and spent four seasons with the men’s basketball program before entering the transfer portal this year, has committed to Louisiana Tech.

At the outset of the 2020-2021 season, Jeffress was the youngest ACC player (17 years, five months, 22 days) to compete in a game since Brad Daugherty made his debut for North Carolina at 17 years, one month and one day Nov. 20, 1982.

Jeffress, a 6-foot-7 forward, appeared in 78 games (22 starts) in three seasons, but he missed 2022-2023 with a foot injury.

Overall, he scored 192 points and recorded 207 rebounds in his Pitt career.

During his prep career at McDowell High School in Erie, he played on the school’s freshman team as a seventh and eighth grader. On the varsity, he was a three-time all-state selection and became the school’s all-time scoring (1,673 points) and rebounding (578) leader.

Jeffress graduated from Pitt’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences this year with a double major in psychology and communications.
