The J. Geils Band – Bloodshot

Love this pressing! Thick, punchy low end, crisp mids and balanced high end. Sounds like the band is playing in front me.

Classic album from the seventies excellent sound quality for a transparent red love j geils

Definitely different from what you’d normally hear on the radio from the JGB, nonetheless, an enjoyable early 70s boogie rock album, pressed on a neat, blood red piece of wax. Production is a bit muddy, but it’s largely helped by Lee Hulko’s energetic cutting, and my copy has an annoying patch of surface noise on most of side a, but it’s not noticeable when the album commonly gets loud.

You would think an album containing House Party, Southside Shuffle and Give It To Me would get a bit more respect than the 2022 reviewer gave it but perhaps this is due to a general lack of knowledge of the group and being from another time. Lee Hulko cut the lacquers on this one and as you would expect it is vibrant and easily plays through some noise I have on my red album and is still enjoyable. Granted J. Geils does not come off as well in the studio as they did live. They were the best live of their time in the Boston area - that is saying a lot. Listen to Live Full House and Blow Your Face Out and you get some idea of it. Boring they were not but maybe not your cup of tea if you were not of age to be at one of their concerts and numerous encores. Incredible. You can pick this album up for $5 tops so it is well worth it.

I bought this album LP from a local record shop in Louisville , Kentucky shortly after its 1973 release and when I opened it up , I was shocked to see that the "BLOODSHOT" album was RED vinyl (bloodshot eyes anyone ? - LOL ) instead of the usual black vinyl !!! My favorite song on this album is "GIVE IT TO ME " as it is the LONG VERSION at 6;32 . My girlfriend Julia and I got to see FOGHAT opening for THE J. GEILS BAND at a LOUISVILE concert back in 1975 and both bands were great !! . I almost married my girlfriend JULIA at that time on February 14 ,1976 (THE COUNTRY'S BICENTENNIAL VALENTINES'S DAY ) .
When CD's came out in the 1980's , I bought THE J. GEILS BAND album "BLOODSHOT" on CD . I have all or nearly all of their albums on CD at present as I sold all of my LP's and went to CD's only from now on .

Bloodshot is the J. Geils Band's third studio album and their first Top Ten (and last until 1982's smash Freeze Frame). The band sounds tighter, meaner, and funkier than on their first two releases, frontman Peter Wolf is looser and wilder than ever, and J. Geils positively rips things up on guitar.

Sound pretty good... one of the best album that I have lesson.

A terribly noisy pressing with compressed and dull sounding mastering. Was pretty disappointed with this one. An excellent album that was not done justice.
