I believe El Modena High School is very diverse with an amazing faculty. They always try to provide resources to improve the campus and get student prepared for college. There are many clubs that try to host fun events for the community. There are also many scholarship opportunities provided by the staff for students to apply to. The staff try to keep our campus clean and safe but I feel like the students disrespect the campus with vandalism. Overall, our school provides a chance for students to achieve their goals.
Myself and all of my siblings attended El Modena High School. I just recently graduated and would generally describe ElMo as a school of passionate educators without the right tools or oversight to make a meaningful change. Most of our challenges in extracurriculars and academic success stem from administration. It wasn't until my senior year that I realized the restraints administration placed on students freedom of expression and opportunity for personal, academic, and emotional growth. Administration prioritized a good relationship with our school board over ensuring quality education for their students as exemplified in my battle against the violation of student club rights during my senior year after our Democratic Club on campus was discriminated against by school officials. Despite those struggles, the teachers at El Modena High School were a driving force of light and encouragement and make the school as wonderful as it is.
This school is great if you’re looking for a lot of diversity, culture, and a wide selection of activities and classes. My favorite classes I took were marine science and ceramics. The teachers in this school are understanding and always willing to help their students out. El Modena will have you never wanting to leave.
