Good one
Not quite as good as their first one. Not too far away, though. Containing a few really nice tunes. As for most of their releases, hard to say for me if one can fully enjoy it not understanding the German lyrics. They really add to the pleasure of this great band. Listening to them always leaves me with a smile.Published

Was hat der Junge doch für Nerven
"Im Schatten der Ärzte" (In the Shadow of The Doctors) is rather tame in comparison, but it's the defining record of the time for me, mixing punk and new wave influences to create an incredibly entertaining album. It's completely childish and silly, and doesn't have a single serious moment, but when I think of 80s and German music this is the first thing that comes to my mind. The songs are about vampires, heroes, love and Buddy Holly, as well as shameless self-praise on the album closer (but this is the band that calls themselves the "bäst" band in the world).
Musically it's varied and just as much fun, there's a wonderful bassline on "Du willst mich küssen", a great atmosphere on tracks like "Dein Vampyr" and "...und es regnet" and some glorious parodies of cheesy love songs with "Ich weiß nicht (ob es Liebe ist)" and "Wegen dir". Knowledge of the German language is probably required to fully understand the appeal of this record, but it's also just a fun New Wave record with three great and creative musicians (one of them apparently being a huge asshole which is why he was replaced after this album).
