Product Description

They thought it would be a simple fling. Instead, they got flung. Being free and easy proves neither free nor easy for already-married Steve and divorced Vickie when they fall in love. George Segal and Glenda Jackson bring the right touch to A Touch of Class, a glossy, grown-up romantic comedy directed and cowritten by Hollywood veteran Melvin Frank (The Court Jester, Li'l Abner). At his harried best teetering between two households, Segal plays sometimes sly, sometimes fumbling Steve. As Vickie, Jackson slings verbal jabs and hotel furnishings with equal glee -- and won the second of her two Best Actress Academy Awards .* The honors for this classiest of romantic romps don't stop there. The two leads each won Golden Globes . And the film earned five Oscar nominations in all, including Best Picture. All in all, it's entertainment touched by magic.

You want to go back to the time when romantic comedies really were romantic? This is a fond memory of mine from my college days and it holds up well all these years later. Glenda Jackson shines in her second Oscar winning performance and George Segal makes up the handsome other half of two people who have an affair and happen to fall in love against all expectations. They don’t make ‘em any better than this. Pop come corn, get your Raisinettes and get ready to enjoy movie night at home.

Nice to see intelligent adults having fun in a movie about sex and adult issues
Are there still grown ups in movies anymore??

A romantic comedy made before romantic comedies had all become When Harry Met Sally or Sleepless in Seattle wannabees, starring the totally underappreciated George Segal and the totally captivating Glenda Jackson. I saw this movie as a kid a few times but hadnt seen it in years. Holds up great, its a touch formulaic but only a touch and not nearly as touching as their love affair. Points out the dangers of sightseeing and lovemaking at the same time ... especially if you have a bad back. I have a bad back so I am gonna be especially careful about my sightseeing FROM NOW ON.

I loved this movie when it first came out and I was wondering if it would hold up over time. Well I’m happy to say that for me it did. I enjoyed the great acting and dialogue just as much as I did the first time.

Good old movie.

This film has so much warmth and humor that I could (and have) seen it many times. Glenda Jackson won the best actress award for her ability to be both dramatic and hilarious. Boy, those two ( George Segal as her co) just ooze with charisma and charm. While there is a touching message at the conclusion, getting there was so much fun. From the gorgeous scenes of London to spectacular, to sunny Spain, this film is true entertainment. I wish there were more adult films like this being made today.

I was anticipating a sophisticated romantic comedy, witty dialogue and crackling chemistry between the two leads. Wrong on all counts. As many reviewers have pointed out, this film has not aged well. If you can get past the casual adultery (neither party ever seems to consider the hurtful nature of their deceptions, George Segal's character is married with two children, Glenda has two children who we see in the opening scene and never again), there are other problematic and annoying things to consider: a gratuitous gay friend for Glenda, Paul Sorvino pretending to be Jewish and dropping Yiddishisms, a really offensive rape joke. The film is loaded with unfunny comedy tropes (that would be at home in the sitcom, "That Girl") along with other contrived and implausible situations. But the biggest disappointment is the lack of any palpable chemistry — sexual or romantic — between Segal and Jackson. Segal's character is insufferable and overbearing, Glenda is statuesque and cooly beguiling, but comes across as soulless and asexual. it's like Segal is bedding a statue. The London and Spain locations must have added glamorous appeal to American audiences used to Marcus Welby, MD and Room 222, but there is nothing worldly or terribly continental here. Best to avoid.

I had never seen this movie when it was screened at the cinema and I had ordered it for a friend who has been telling me about it for years. She loaned it to me to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really something different for Glenda Jackson and she was marvellous as was George Segal. They are complete strangers who seem to be bumping into each other all the time. She is a divorcee and he is married with children. They decide to have a secret holiday together abroad. He thinks his wife is holidaying somewhere else but she decides she will go with him. He finally manages to go alone but meets a colleague and his wife and children on the plane. This throws a spanner in the works and everything seems to be thrown into complete chaos. Suffice to say the whole movie is a series of fiascos with some very funny happenings but also some moments of sadness which ultimately reaches an ending that is inevitable.
A wonderfully entertaining movie and doesn't really seem dated at all.
