How to Beat Gilgamesh
At last, you have finally collected all protorelic phenomenons from all regions in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. Now, it is now time to seal the deal and confront the strange fellow from another dimension, who is none other than Gilgamesh. IGN's Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth guide will help you emerge victorious in this duel against Gilgamesh.
Best Party and Equipment to Beat Gilgamesh
For this fight, it is recommended that you use Cloud, Aerith, and Barret.
Having Aerith and Barret in your party will let you inflict long range damage to Gilgamesh without risking all of your characters taking heavy damage in close range. Aerith's ATB Ward will be especially useful to keep Barret's ATB gauges high and therefore keep the filling up the pressure bar faster.
Equip the following materia for all of them:
- Revival Materia
- Healing Materia
- Fire Materia
- Poison Materia
- Any debuff materia (can spread these out to one or two characters or have them all with Aerith)

How to Beat Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Gilgamesh has the same weaknesses as before, however, this time around, he is more active in hitting you and not as clumsy as to pressure himself.
You can start filling up the pressure bar by perfectly blocking his attacks, and also casting fira or firaga. Have either Barret or Aerith, from a distance, cast the spells when he is active, so that he does not interrupt you so easily. Throughout the fight he will start invoking different weapons, which will add to his arsenal of physical abilities.
Watch out for the following attacks:
- Daemon Wave (Muramasa) - Inflicts Berserk, Slow, and Debrave
- Spatial Rend (Rune Axe) - Hits from above and conjures large rocks from the ground.
- Flutterwing Dance - Cast three wind runes that conjures large whirlwinds in its place.
- Whirlpool Dance - Casts a wide whirlpool that can start pulling in party nearby party members.
Every time he gets a chance to get his Genji Shield out, he will buff himself up, however you can use Dispel to take the buffs out, and at the same time, take the chance to destroy the Genji Shield as soon as possible. The shield is weak to fire so make sure to lock your focus on the shield.
As soon as the shield is lost, he will be pressured and it's your chance to stagger him. You can also take a chance here to cast Bioga since he won't try to use his Genji Shield until after you stagger him.
After you stagger him and he loses a chunk of his health, he will invoke Excalipoor. Despite not being the real deal, it still can damage you significantly.
When he is running low on health, be careful when he starts his countdown. Finish him or stagger him, before he finishes the countdown. Use everything at your disposal to keep him from finishing the countdown. Otherwise, he will unleash his Ultimate Illusion attack, which is pretty much a deadly one-hit attack.
Once you finish him off, you can now use him as a summon! Yay! The Brutal and Legendary challenges will also be added to the Combat Simulator.
Even better, you can buy some pretty neat materia at Chadley's Meridian Ocean shop!
