Auditorium and Multifunctional Space
At S+A’s head office, in Lisbon, an auditorium with 50 seats can be used as a training lab or a lounge for events with an outdoor area. It is equipped with digital audio, HD projection and livestreaming for online training.

Responsible for a large part of carbon emissions into the atmosphere, the very act of building and demolishing today presupposes a model based on the demolishing of a place. Based on a linear system that ends up in the extraction of resources, goes through construction and ends in its eventual demolition, in most cases, the time of use of buildings and their materials is considerably less than their useful life. In order to intend and reverse this system, some case studies will be presented that sought to recover previously used materials, offering them a new useful life and more sustainable architectural solutions, where reuse appears as an urgent activity to mobilize new ideas and propositions attentive to the current period.

Considered by the UN as the country most susceptible to natural disasters, the island nation of Vanuatu, in the South Pacific, has been the target of an increasing number of cyclones that have left much of the country in a considerable state of destruction.
In this session, architect Lourenço Branco describes the solidarity challenge he participated in, in Vanuatu, of building a school and library in the village of Tanbok, on the island of Pentecost, and introduces us to the Ni-Vanuatu culture. Designed and built together with the local community, the school integrates cyclone-resistant construction solutions and incorporates passive design strategies to cope with the region's extreme climate. An extraordinary personal and professional experience, fulfilling and memorable.

Find out how this multinational organization operates, developing projects for the entire world, in all areas of specialty in multiple sectors. In a multicultural environment, teams of architects from many nationalities work on large-scale and complex architectural projects, where technical skill goes hand in hand with creativity and innovation. You can also learn about the Integrated Internship Program, the Merit Scholarships, the Lab@S+A and the areas of activity of S+Academy. S+A offers a “welcome coffee” and all students will receive architectural books and publications.
