Veteran film and TV actress Shashikala passes away; Naved Jafri, Rohit Bose Roy mourn her demise

Veteran film and TV actress Shashikala passed away today (April 4) at her residence, although an official confirmation from her family is awaited. The actress was 88.

Veteran film and TV actress Shashikala passed away today (April 4) at her residence, although an official confirmation from her family is awaited. The actress was 88.
Shashikala also worked in television and was part of popular shows like Sonpari and Jeena Isi ka Naam Hai. In Sonpari, she played daadi to Fruity and Tooty.
Naved Jafri shared on Instagram, “Our dear Shashikala Ji is no more.
She was a great artist. May the almighty give the family strength and patience to bear this irreplaceable loss. Deepest condolences. #ShashiKala #RIPShashikala.”

Rohit Bose Roy also took to Twitter to mourn the actress’ demise. He wrote, “Shashikala ji... RIP.”


Born in August 1932, Shashikala made a mark with her performance in supporting roles and negative roles in Bollywood films. Shashikala has featured in over 100 films, essaying several pivotal parts. She is remembered for her performance in hits like 'Khubsoorat', 'Anupama' and 'Ayi Milan Ke Bela', ‘Badshah’ to name a few.
She earned a lot of accolades for her performance of a negative role in 'Aarti' (1962), co-starring Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar, and Pradeep Kumar.
In 2007, Shashikala was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award for her contribution to cinema. She was a disciple of Mother Teresa and led an elusive life.
