      Critics Consensus

A rom-com with the right ingredients, Notting Hill proves there's nothing like a love story well told -- especially when Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts are your leads.

Anthony Lane New Yorker There are plenty of incidental pleasures; some of the supporting players—especially Tim McInnerny as a lousy cook and Rhys Ifans as a scrofulous Welshman—threaten to steal the picture. Caroline S The humor was top notch, the romance was a bit lackluster. Very slow moving plot, but overall I enjoyed it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/22 Full Review mary p Absolutely charming. I wish they made films like this today. Delightful and entertaining. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/22 Full Review Audience Member Sometimes being famous means we just want some semblance of normal Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Rhys Ifans In Notting Hill, London Grant plays William He lives happily in a small village with roommate Spike Anna Scott is the most popular actress in the world now William has seen her work and they happen to meet all of a sudden in his bookstore Both of them fall for each other but Anna is unsure how to juggle a normal life and her fame It's true for celebrities anytime they try to do something normal it turns into a disaster, the media and the press is more interested in making a headline out of something so mudane, there's always obstacles to overcome with romance, we can't help the cross talk in public especially the scandal with actors, certain people only lucked into fame and will have many opportunities to regret The film is a bit too long but Roberts and Grant's chemistry is spot on and it feels rather timely commenting on the celebrity status Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review Chloe A Everything from the quite rural, natural settings to the marvellous acting from both Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant makes the connection seem all the more better! Unlike other rom-coms which fail to stand out due to the lack of romance between two leads, this movie's leads make the movie far more worth the while to watch. Both an interesting plot, and IS NOT predictable and bland! One of the best rom-coms out there! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Bob P The rom-com masterpiece written and produced by Richard Curtis, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts is just about perfect. This is Roberts best performance and her chemistry with Grant, as well as her believability, proves she is a very fine actress. The film is very funny, well acted, has beautiful cinematography and an outstanding score. This is the kind of movie you can watch a dozen times and never get bored Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review KK K For a movie to disappoint this much, with actors I LOVE this much (usually)... WOW...shows what a dud it is! Roberts is dull as hell throughout & gives ZERO reason onscreen for us to root for her, nor a reason for Hugh to be pining over her whatsoever. Whole thing was soo silly-- annoyingly unbelievable, pretentious, & mostly-- overrated! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews
