Samantha, a hard working modern woman who, because of a chance encounter with senatorial candidate Frank Carlton, is offered a job by conniving campaign runner Eric aiming to work for the prospective senator. She agrees and we are then shown the complicated way various relationships shape the campaign and how it all falls apart.

Sad little melodrama that shows how politics leeches folks (women and men actually) dry.

A touching, melancholy performance by pin-up model June Wilkinson as a woman fed up with being the plaything of powerful men is the sole point of interest in this sexploitation political melodrama that doesn't have enough sex, politics, or melodrama.
Conniving election manager Buddy Barker (Eric Mason) hires brassy hotel waitress Christine Ashley (Mamie Van Doren) to provide campaign assistance for womanising politician Frank Carlton (Ted Knight) who is making a run for a senatorial seat. Unfortunately Carlton falls for trashy English broad Angela (June Wilkinson) and despite the best efforts of Barker things spiral out of control. "The Candidate" is a sleazy political drama, directed by Robert Angus who moves things along at a brisk pace. Not much to this one! 🥱melodrama, with a few very interesting visual bits including a crazy swingin’ Halloween party, the opening credits sequence, and the closing thunderstorm through Venetian blinds.
Half of a double feature with Johnny Gunman from the VS OOP clearance sale
This is the first film of another Vinegar Syndrome double feature, and is paired with “Johnny Gunman” which will be reviewed shortly. This one seems to be the main draw on the disc with Mamie Van Doren and Ted Knight starring in a very tame sexploitation about politics and scandal. When the most impressive thing in the movie is the opening credit sequence instead of Mamie in various states of near nudity, you’re in trouble. The main problem is that it tries to be classy instead of diving fully into the tropes of sexploitation. Still, it’s fun enough to mostly hold your interest.
