Will BlackBerry 10 and BBOS devices still be usable after Jan 4 2022?

I read somewhere that BlackBerry is ending support for BB10 and BBOS on the 4th of January 2022. Does this mean that my old BlackBerrys will stop working entirely? Or does this just mean that I won't be able to register a new ID, or reset the phones?

I would just make sure to disable BB Protect, then wipe and then set up all your BB10 devices before Jan 4, 2022.

I would personally do it now so you don't have to think about it later. Make sure to back up all your data first.

Once the phone is wiped and set up without a BBID, just download the Yalp Store here: https://f-droid.org/repo/com.github.kiliakin.yalpstore_47.apk

What's Yalp store

A forked version of the Google Play Store.

Apps that require Google Play Services probably won't work though.

Your screen will just go black forever. I'm kidding of course but you haven't got any support for the last 5 years anyways,,,

My classic died forever for no apparent reason a few days ago. RIP. Still trying to figure out why :'(

Could it be the battery?

u/snail_shepard avatar

Possibly? I don't have the tools to replace it and don't know how much longer it would function anyways :/ Decided to upgrade to a key2 with android software for the time being

Usually if it's the battery though, there's a icon that comes on the screen though. I think it has to be plugged in for it to appear.

Have you had an android blackberry before? I had a priv and a keyone !

No I haven't! While I'm definitely going to miss the simplicity of the classic, I'm kind of excited to enter the modern age :'D

My Keyone died and I am using my Classic right now but I know I cannot use it forever. I am thinking about getting a Priv as a in the meantime phone. As a user of both the Priv and Keyone - which do you prefer and why? I would value your input. Thank you.

BBOS was already a pain to use 8-10 years ago. Can't imagine what that feels like now.

Weren’t they all supposed to brick in 2020?

Nah only BlackBerry World was set to end that date.

From the pinned post in this Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/blackberry/comments/irlvzo/blackberry_10pbos_infrastructure_eol/

  • Seems like BBOS devices will be unusable.

  • BB10 devices might work if you activate them prior to the end date.

Let's all hope that before that date we have new 5G Blackberry phones to buy.
