Massy-Opéra line 18 station project - The specialist in stone on composite materials

Massy-Opéra line 18 station project

Stone Evolution is proud to be involved in the construction of the new RER station at Massy (91).

It will serve Massy town center and a number of metropolitan-scale public facilities, such as the Opera House. The final shape of the project evokes a monolith extracted from the ground, shaped like carved stone and hollowed out by breaches that open it up to the city. The project management team is Ateliers 2/3/4 (architects)-Groupement Icare. Project management is the responsibility of Société du Grand Paris (SGP).

Stone Evolution has once again been chosen for its expertise in the production of stone honeycomb panels in its Ile-de-France plant. This project in the Paris region, located just a few kilometers from Stone Evolution's production site, is manufactured in France and very locally.

The facade will be made of Hainaut Blue Stone, a Belgian stone from the Hainaut quarries in Soignies (Belgium).

As a reminder, Stone Evolution's technology consists of panels made of 5 mm slabs of natural stone bonded and pressed to a 20 mm-thick aluminum honeycomb panel. The whole forms a highly resistant monolithic block, to which inserts are attached to a metal cladding supported by the shell structure.

The technology offers the following advantages:

- Use of natural materials (stone)

- Uses less material than solid stone (5 mm thick for the same strength)

- Faster implementation

- Incomparable aesthetics associated with the use of stone

- Aesthetics linked to the play of geometries possible thanks to the panels and the creativity of the builder

- Signs can be replaced if damaged

- Lower environmental costs (materials, lightweight, less material, transport, local production)
