Conscious Route - ‘Ducks in a Row’ ft Lynzie Dray and Miles Better, B Side: Two Guys ft Pro Focus

Release Date: 17 May, 2024

Edinburgh-based rapper, Conscious Route is back with the final single release from his highly acclaimed ‘Belterz’ album.

The two-track release opens with ‘Ducks in a Row,’ which sees him unite with Lynzie Dray, who recently released her ‘S.H.E.’ album remix project, and Miles Better, who has collaborated with Conscious Route before, both in recording and onstage.

‘Ducks in a Row’ hits with a rumbling bassline, skipping snare break, and melodic instrumentation from producer Mackenzie, that leaves plenty of space for the MCs to deliver on how people are seen as commodities and stereotypes in society while Lynzie ties it all together with her lilting, folk-influenced vocals.

The flip is the more lyrically direct, ‘Two Guys,’ where Conscious Route teams up with a quick-spitting Pro Focus over a sparse and stuttering backdrop from Edinburgh-born, Brighton-based producer, Tzusan. The two MCs deliver their own challenges to other artists and the industry itself with an amusing mix of humour, social observation, and b-boy swagger.

Once again, Conscious Route shows how to flip across styles and topics, without losing your own style and voice…

Conscious Route is a rapper, MC, poet and singer-songwriter who was born in London before moving to Edinburgh over a decade ago. In 2020, he unleashed the collaborative ‘Lost Routes’ album, alongside producer True Note, which went on to receive a 4-star review in The Scotsman upon its release.

His most recent album, ‘Belterz’ has also received 4-star reviews from The Skinny Magazine and The Scotsman. It has been supported worldwide, including ‘Day Ones’ being named in the top tracks of 2023 on London-based Itch Fm's Exposure Show with DJ Sammy Jay and on Sheffield-based Mama RaRay’s Break & Bass Fam show. The album has received worldwide coverage with multiple songs played on radio and digital broadcasting platforms. It also was given a featured spotlight on PortlandMetroRecords.com and was featured on Blacksmith and Frenic’s Rinse FM show.

Other recent releases, ‘Trojan’ and his feature on ‘Dragons Jaw’ by Post Coal Prom Queen, were named as tracks of the week on BBC Introducing Scotland. ‘The Sensory EP,’ a collaboration with producer Toni Smoke, also saw two tracks receive worldwide airplay on Rapstation 365 radio, being played by the UK’s DJ Shorty on the London Chip Shop show, then re-spun by the legendary Chuck D in the USA. His ‘Lost Routes Flip Tape’ was supported by Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music’s Fresh On The Net BBC Introducing mixtape show and he has seen his music named among the Herald’s top 100 Scottish tunes of the year in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

His 2023 release, ‘Jazz Unsung’ was featured among the top tracks of the year on Itch FM, the 6th Floor Show, the U.S.A.-based Puso 82.3 FM and on SWH Cam Glen Radio. It was also featured on Tom Robinson’s ‘Fresh on the Net Fresh Picks’ and on BBC Introducing Scotland radio. The track, ‘Galactic’ was featured on the BBC 6 Introducing Mixtape and on BBC Introducing Scotland, where Shereen Cutkelvin said, “Can I just say this trio together are absolute fire! I mean it just all works so perfectly together, it’s by far the best track I heard here, like he’s just taken the bar so high, he’s knocked it off to a whole other room.” Elsewhere, the track, ‘Dripping Sauce’ with producer Subject 13 (recently released on R&S Records), has been getting hyped reviews and worldwide attention including on platforms YORAPS.COM and DMCWORLD.NET.

Meanwhile, the live music scene has seen Conscious Route support Dabbla, Dead Prez, Akala, Marlowe, Pan Amsterdam, Wiki, Jelani Blackman, Onyx and, most recently, Manga Saint Hilare, to name a few.

Edinburgh’s Lynzie Dray has been performing across Scotland for 10 years, including appearances at festivals like EH6, LOOPALOO, Eden and supporting acts including Gerry Cinnamon, Bez, Kyle Falconer, Alan McGee and more. The original ‘free range kid,’ Lynzie’s musical journey began following reconstructive surgery for a cleft palate and lip, after which she decided, ‘I’m gonna play the guitar and write some cool tunes now….’ Lynzie’s unique style of song-smithing and confident vocals draw on influences including acoustic pop, rock, and folk as her bluesy delivery brings audiences into an emotional journey that draws upon her life experiences.

Glasgow’s Miles Better is an experienced MC and producer, who brings an eclectic mix of golden era and modern hip-hop styles with a sprinkling of distortion and left-wing lyricism. He is known for his high-energy live performances, which are filled with earth-shaking beats and techno-enhanced vocal trickery.

Born in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Pro Focus is an MC, lyricist and songwriter who moves between old school hip-hop and grime / drill sounds. Actively putting out music and visuals on his own YouTube channel, he first appeared on the scene in 2018, with his debut track, ‘Take One,’ quickly racking up thousands of streams. Since then, he has gone on to release the 5-track E.P., ‘My Episode,’ produced by F:8 and Sinamon. Bringing his Scots dialect and diction to contemporary UK sounds and more traditional hip-hop, Pro Focus continues to go from strength to strength.
