Zhang Yimou takes on the urban crime suspense genre for the first time with the 2023 film Under the Light! Lei Jiayin (Full River Red) delves into a murky case in the twisty crime drama co-starring Yu Hewei (Cliff Walkers), Zhang Guoli, Joan Chen and Zhou Dongyu in her second collaboration with Zhang Yimou over a decade since Under the Hawthorn Tree.
Police officer Su Jianming (Lei Jiayin) is determined to find out the mastermind behind a bus bombing that threatened the life of his father, vice-mayor Zheng Gang (Zhang Guoli). Despite his father's objections, Su begins to investigate shady business magnate Li Zhitian (Yu Hewei). Su and officer Li Huilin (Zhou Dongyu) follow the trail of clues as the investigation spirals increasingly out of control.
