Over the last two decades, Christopher Nolan’s name has been solidified as one of the most distinct minds that has emerged in modern filmmaking. The filmmaker’s career is on a roll as he went from doing low-budget indie films to creating Oppenheimer which had an explosive effect on the film industry. Nolan is notorious for pushing the limits of filmmaking.
In each of his films, he would push the idea to its limits as he keeps bringing something new to the table; such was the case with his 2014 sci-fi drama Interstellar, featuring Matthew McConaughey in the lead. The film was something that had never been seen before in the history of filmmaking. The film was praised by everyone, including Quentin Tarantino praising the director for his imaginative skills and creative vision.
Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar Had a Magic Effect On Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Tarantino, the mind behind cinematic masterpieces like Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood, Inglorious Basterds, and many more has established himself as one of the best filmmakers with a dedicated fan base around the globe. Tarantino’s work has been an inspiration for numerous film directors, who have built a stable footing in the film industry.
Impressing the lauded filmmaker is no easy task because he will nitpick details that can not be seen by the naked eye. However, it does not matter, when you are Christopher Nolan because his 2014 film featuring Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Timothée Chalamet, and many more blew Tarantino away.
During an exclusive interview with The Guardian, the Pulp Fiction director shared how he, along with many notable directors in the industry was invited by Nolan for the special screening of the sci-fi film. He recalled how he had not been excited for a movie since The Matrix. He said,
We’re waiting for the movie to start and it hit me. I realised that it hadn’t been since The Matrix that I was actually that interested in seeing a movie even though I didn’t know what I was going to see.
Tarantino was impressed, as it had been quite some time since he saw a filmmaker having such a distinct vision. He added,
It’s been a while since somebody has come out with such a big vision to things. Even the elements, the fact that dust is everywhere, and they’re living in this dust bowl that is just completely enveloping this area of the world. That’s almost something you expect from Tarkovsky or Malick, not a science fiction adventure movie.
The film which featured a star-studded cast with a never-before-seen plot became a smash-hit blockbuster as it grossed $647 million at the worldwide box office with additional revenue of $53.7 million domestic video sales as per The Numbers.
Christopher Nolan Has Reportedly Started Working on His Next Cinematic Masterpiece
Christopher Nolan has already unlocked a big achievement in his filmmaking career by winning his first Oscars during the 96th Academy Awards. This remarkable feat has solidified his status as one of the greatest filmmakers in the entertainment film industry.
While many would believe that the filmmaker would be busy celebrating his success, that is not the case as he is already working on his next project. As per reports from Puck News, it is believed that the filmmaker is back to his workstation as he has already started writing his next project.
Though it is yet to be confirmed by the Dunkirk director, it is possible that the film will be quite different from the dark subject that Oppenheimer featured.
In a separate interview with Variety, Nolan was asked if he would like to make a horror film. He answered he would “love to make a horror film,” but he has not found a story that will convince him to make one. He said,
I think horror films are very interesting because they depend on very cinematic devices, it really is about a visceral response to things and so, at some point, I’d love to make a horror film. But I think a really good horror film requires a really exceptional idea. And those are few and far between. So I haven’t found a story that lends itself to that.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to learn what Nolan is going to do in his next project.
In the meantime, you can stream Interstellar on Paramount+.
