Jake Bugg A Modern Day Distraction

English rock troubadour Jake Bugg has announced his forthcoming sixth album, A Modern Day Distraction, set for release on 20th September 2024 via RCA Records. Alongside this announcement, Bugg has released a new single, ‘Zombieland’, and revealed dates for a winter 2024 UK and EU tour.

The new single, ‘Zombieland’, is described as a bone-crunching Beatles-via-Nirvana guitar-driven track. It addresses the struggles of the daily grind and the injustices faced by many in their working lives. “It’s fucking brutal,” says Bugg of the people he knows who exist in “a constant cycle of working to live.” He adds, “They’re not paid what they’re worth. People have the same routine every day, they’re at work more than they see their kids, then the government puts the retirement age up. It’s not right.”

Produced by Metrophonic at Metrophonic Studios in London, A Modern Day Distraction sees Bugg returning to his rock roots, shining a light on societal inequalities that frustrate him. “People might say ‘What do you know?’ or ‘Just stick to music’. I’ve got a bit of money, but we all know the people this affects. I was just writing it because it was the way I felt. It pisses me off – especially in a country like ours where we have the means and funds to take care of the people suffering the most, but we choose not to.”

Bugg, now 30, reflects on his journey since his debut album was released when he was just 18. Despite his success, he believes his best work is still ahead of him: “You just have to put your songs out into the universe and hope for the best.”

Following a series of summer shows, Jake Bugg will embark on a winter tour, starting in Paris on 9th November and including a headline show at London’s Roundhouse on 19th November.
