The leading ladies of Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho, Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy, mirror each other in new images from the film. The auteur returns for his first movie since the 2017 critical hit Baby Driver, and the early buzz is so far pretty favorable. Last Night in Soho is set to arrive in theaters over Halloween weekend, though it has already premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The first reviews for Last Night in Soho have praised Wright's direction and the lead performances, though there are some mixed takes on other aspects of the movie.

Nevertheless, audiences are ready to see another Wright production. Last Night in Soho stars McKenzie as aspiring fashion designer Eloise. Disconnected from her surroundings in present day London, she somehow is able to travel back in time to the 1960s and inhabit the body of singer Sandie (Taylor-Joy). What first seems like a gift becomes a nightmare as the past and present begin to blur. Described as an acid trip by Taylor-Joy, Last Night in Soho also stars Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, and the late Diana Rigg in her final onscreen role.

In a way, the ladies of Last Night in Soho will be pulling double duty throughout the story, and the latest images from the movie reflect this. Shared online courtesy of Total Film (via GamesRadar), new promotional images have McKenzie and Taylor-Joy mirroring each other, though they still hold some individual quirks. A final shot appears to be from the film itself, showing McKenzie's Eloise sitting alone in a fashion studio. Check them all out below.

From the premise alone, it's clear Last Night in Soho has some twists and turns up its sleeves. In fact, Wright has specifically asked audiences not to spoil the movie after they've seen it. There's clearly a strange connection between Eloise and Sandie, which is highlighted in the new images. As the Last Night in Soho trailers have hinted, Eloise will gradually pull more and more of Sandie's personality into her own life; the above pictures already have her with her dyed hair, which comes after spending more time in the 1960s.

Wright is known for crafting unique movies, from Scott Pilgrim vs the World to the aforementioned Baby Driver. Last Night in Soho is very much a departure for the director since it will be his first horror movie. That's what makes it one of the buzziest films of the fall, and that it is an exclusive theatrical release (something of a rarity these days) only makes its prospects more intriguing. Audiences can unravel this time-bending mystery when it arrives next month.
