Most commonly the word "bioactive" is used to describe terrariums and vivariums that include natural substrate and a clean up crew. In r/bioactive we want to use the broader idea of setting up any sort of enclosure in order to mimic the animal's natural environment. Pics, videos, questions and discussion on any aspect of a bioactive enclosure are all welcome here.

help! small black beetle-like bugs

sorry for the bad pictures, they are the best I could get. Found these guys floating in my cresties water dish. They are hard and slow moving. Cant see any legs, just antenna if i look very very closely. Do i need to start over or are these harmless? thanks!!

hmmm, no i dont think so, these guys dont have the white spots, the spot in that one picture is from the flash of my camera

Given that the spots are at different locations on each bug in all of the pictures, I believe that it is the flash reflecting off of them in the link I posted too.

That was just the first post I found in a search that had clear pictures of black globular springtails.

Could be a type of water mite, do they have 6 or 8 legs? 6 would make them a beetle and 8 would be more likely to be a mite.

But my best guess is it’s a Oribatida, microphytophageous species which is probably munching on the algae that could be forming in your cresties water. They are non-parasitic and often come from leaves or plants added to terrariums and such.
