Going to Mt Fuji/Hakone

Going to Mt Fuji/Hakone

I'm planning to rent a car to Mt Fuji and Hakone for 2 nights and 3 days trip, I am going straight from Narita. By the time I reach Narita will be at 930am. My first night stay is at Gotemba (non-cancellation) and my 2nd night stay is at Hakone, I am undecisive if it is better for me to rent a car in Gotemba or Odawara? Is there any car rental company allow me to rent at Gotemba and return at Odawara? After that, my friend is going to Yokohama and while I will be going to Tokyo. Does anyone has a suggestion on which route to go will be more effective? Thank you.

I rephrase, what I mean I will be taking a train from Narita, but I do not know if I should stop at Gotemba or Odawara and then rent a car. My first night stay is at Gotemba and my 2nd night stay is at Hakone. We wanted to covered Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanaka if possible. My friend is also keen to go to Fuji-Highland, and the Hakone Ropeway, is it possible to cover them in 2 nights, and perhaps 2.5 days (not 3 days). We are thinking to rent a car because we doesn't want to carry our luggage all the journey as we are travelling in group of 4. I look forward to your response. Thanks.

Why don't you take the Narita Express and Shinkansen to Odawara and rent it there?

Yes, I will be taking Narita Express but I just do not know if I should stop at Odawara or Gotemba and rent a car either at Odawara or Gotemba. Are you suggesting to rent at Odawara is better?

Odawara is in Kanagawa Prefecture and Gotemba is in Shizuoka Prefecture. Renting them and returning them at the same place will save you the extra drop off fee.

It is quite troublesome to get to Gotemba by bus or train anyway.

Better pick up (and return) rental car in Odawara, with zero drop-off charge.

Gotemba is b/w Hakone and Yamanaka-ko, Fuji 5-lake.

Mt Fuji can only be viewed on clear days.
