Captain America: Brave New World actor Tim Blake Nelson discussed how The Leader was created for the project. Prior to this, the actor teased his transformation into The Leader, professing that he thinks people are "going to be pretty excited about what this guy looks like."

Nelson touched upon this subject during an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast, Inside of You, avowing, "I'm very happy about [Brave New World]. It's a wonderfully directed movie by Julius Onah. I can tell you about my character that we did everything we could, and this was entirely supported by Marvel and I'm so grateful to [Marvel Studios President and CCO] Kevin Feige and [producer] Nate Moore for supporting this: they were on board 100% to do the character as practically as possible with an absence of digital stuff."

Nelson went on to remark that he credits both Marvel Studios and Onah for "wanting to make a very much reality-based superhero movie, as oxymoronic as that sounds." He concluded, "In terms of our approach to The Leader, that's really where we went and I was really gratified to do it that way." The Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran had also delved into reprising the role for Brave New World in 2022, asserting at the time that he was "delighted," and that Marvel is "part of cinema history and that [he gets] to be a part of that is an absolute honor."

"They were on board 100% to do the character as practically as possible with an absence of digital stuff."

Moving on to the Sentinel of Liberty himself, leading man Anthony Mackie talked about the pressure of being Captain America in 2023, conveying that there's a "huge amount of pressure." Interestingly, that same year, Mackie hinted that his character Sam Wilson won't be leading the returning Avengers, conveying that Sam is the only character without superpowers.

"Being from New Orleans, I've been in a few fights," he further noted. "And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos."

Captain America: Brave New World Follows Sam Wilson as the New Captain America

Concerning Brave New World, Julius Onah and Nate Moore themselves revealed new story details about it, with Onah stating that part of the challenge for Sam as Captain America is the way he's going to make decisions. Circling back to The Leader, Moore affirmed that "[the] Samuel Sterns you met in The Incredible Hulk is a bit different now" and that Sam Wilson finds himself "almost standing between Samuel Sterns and what he thinks the government owes him, and how he wants to go about getting that."

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
