A FAMILY from Whitehaven have raised £600 for the heart unit at Cumberland Infirmary after a family members suffered a heart attack and was cared for here.

Family members, David Colley, and his nephews, Kylan Thomspon and Lucas Thompson completed a military assault course to raise money for the CCU and heart centre at Carlisle.

The trio spent a gruelling few months at the gym preparing for the event, and they completed the course in Macclesfield in April.

The family decided to raise money for the hospital after their father and grandfather, Edward Colley, suffered a heart attack last November. Nicola Thompson, Kylan and Lucas' mam, and David's sister said: "“Our family wanted to bring awareness to heart attacks, my dad is fit and it can happen to anyone at anytime. My dad drove himself to the hospital aware of what can happen.

"Luckily, my dad had really good result from his stent but that doesn’t happen to anyone. They wanted to raise money to say thank you for the care at the centre."

Now, the cheque for £600 has been officially handed over to staff on CCU in Carlisle. The family the cheque over the ward manager, Kelly English, staff nurse, Racheal Ewan and other members of the ward who were involved in Edward's care. Nicola said: "We want to give a massive heartfelt thank you for the care my dad received."
