Karin was one of the most renowned scholars in the humanities in Sweden and made modern history of medicine a successful research area in Swedish academy and in public consciousness. Although she mostly wrote in Swedish some of her major works were translated into other languages, among them Den mörka kontinenten (The Dark Continent) (1994).
As research leader, teacher and personality she has been vital in making the Department of history of science and ideas one of the most successful research environments in the humanities. She is grieved and missed by her many friends and colleagues.
