This Monday, the Minister of Defense, Maya Fernandez, together with President Gabriel Boric, held a meeting with Romy Vargas, mother of Franco Vargas, the young soldier who died in a march in Putre.

The meeting aimed to address the family’s concerns and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the search for truth and justice in this case.

After the meeting, Minister Fernández highlighted the need to clarify the facts and ensure that those responsible for failing to care for young people are punished.

In response to Romy Vargas’ preference to see her son’s case in the ordinary courts over the military, a fact that will be decided this Tuesday, the Secretary of State stated: “Our democracy must always trust in justice.”

Regarding the criticism from former Defense Ministers about the ministry’s diligence in this case, the Government authority emphasized that they have informed the families in detail about the actions carried out. “It is to the family that we have related all the actions that have been carried out with all the information we have received. “We have done everything within the power of the Ministry of Defense,” said.

“The majority of these authorities have my phone number, former authorities, and I have not received any calls, because I could also tell them step by step everything we have done as the Ministry of Defense,” the head of the portfolio added in this regard.
