Voigt, Joan Marie aged 95, died May 3rd 2024 in Spring Park MN, from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Born February 19, 1929 in St. Paul MN, Joan was a considerate, generous, and adventuresome sister, Aunt, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend. Joan graduated St. Paul Central High School, attended Macalester College, and ultimately received her college degree from Metropolitan State University. Joan was an Xray Technician, shorthand instructor, artist, Project Assistant to SLP World Religions Dept., and Tour Guide at Betty Crocker Kitchens. Joan met her husband Frederick Voigt (1928-2009) at Macalester College, and married in 1952. They moved to St. Louis Park where their children were born. Joan studied genealogy, was a member of many Norwegian organizations, traveled widely with her family, and took two special trips to visit 15th- century family farms in rural Norway. After retirement, Joan and Fred spent most summers at Gull Lake, MN. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Irven and Esther (Thorson) Nelson, brothers Eugene (Betty) Nelson and Irven "Bud" Nelson. Joan is survived by children Judy (Erick) Englund, Jaci (Dan) Berner, Jeff Voigt, grandchildren Casey (Shawn) Englund-Helmeke, Ben (Karin) Englund, Andy Berner, Ashly Berner, Colin Voigt, and Cole Voigt, five great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Carol Nelson. Much love and many thanks to home health aides and hospice nurses who stayed by Joan's side and walked with us through her final journey. Services will be held May 17 at Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Road, St. Louis Park. Visitation 10 am, service 11 am. A private family interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings, alongside four generations of the Voigt family.
