Pyotr Saltykov

Pyotr Saltykov (11 December 1697-26 December 1772) was a Russian nobleman and Field Marshal.

Biography[]

Pyotr Saltykov was born in Nikolskoye, Russian Empire in 1697, and he descended from a prominent family of boyars. Educated in navigation in France, he rose in the ranks of the Imperial Russian Army and served as its commander-in-chief during the Seven Years' War, defeating Frederick the Great's Prussian army at the Battle of Kunersdorf. He became one of Catherine the Great's lieutenants, banning books deemed "harmful to society" in 1765. He died in 1772.
