62% Tomatometer 21 Reviews 57% Audience Score 50+ Ratings Donut shop owner Arthur is a gruff Chicagoan who refuses to move into the 20th century by updating the menu with trendy items or renovating the space -- which has remained unchanged since it's opening in 1969. Things start to change when enterprising go-getter Franco talks his way into a job at the shop and convinces Arthur that he can modernize the business, allowing it to remain competitive in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. The two get support from Arthur's loyal customers, as they work to remain profitable and fend off the efforts of aspiring real estate capitalist Fawz, who is constantly pressuring Arthur to sell him the building. Critics Consensus

While Superior Donuts' talented cast impressively delivers, the annoying laugh track and stale jokes leave a hole in the middle of a crusty -- albeit topical -- narrative.

Emily St. James Vox It's a useful example of when it's worth sticking with a troubled show that has promising elements. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2017 Full Review Dan Fienberg Hollywood Reporter There's upside to Superior Donuts, though whether that upside matches its lofty literary pedigree or whether its progression along its learning curve is coming fast enough is less clear. Feb 2, 2017 Full Review Meredith Blake Los Angeles Times As with so many sitcoms, the protagonists of Superior Donuts don't yet feel like living, breathing humans who've spent decades on the planet acquiring experiences and points of view. Feb 2, 2017 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media The messages are positive and relevant, but Superior Donuts also features your typical sitcom fare, including some quick punch lines and a reliance on some tired stereotypes for laughs. Rated: 3/5 Feb 6, 2017 Full Review Ken Tucker Yahoo! TV Superior Donuts feels like the kind of sitcom that would have struck audiences as a cozy place to visit every week if it had premiered in the days before cable and streaming. As it is, it feels at once odd and stale. Feb 2, 2017 Full Review Jon Negroni We Got This Covered Despite some clumsy execution, Superior Donuts has enough heart to keep your eyes from glazing over. Audience Member I loved this show. Funny, cute, with a great cast that worked off each other very well. Sorry to see it go. There's too much bad tv & too little that can just brighten your viewing schedule! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show started out strong with a great cast. The second season has progressively gone downhill. It’s heavy on political correctness and social commentary, but the humor has been lost. The writers showcase the young black male lead, while largely ignoring the biggest talents in the cast. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show is fun to watch. The characters make great comedy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Caught 5 minutes of this show and feel sorry for the actors involved. Judd Hirsch, Katey Segal, and David Koechner can't save this show with 2 broke girls quality jokes and bad laugh track. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Love it, it's a treat to see a sitcom like this on the air again. Critical reviews will unfortunatly sour many viewers opinions, but if you like 30 minutes of laughs and you enjoyed the Fresh Prince, The Facts of Life, Steve Urkel, The Growing Pains, Balki Bartokomous, or Get a Life.......You should give this gem a try. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Its a nice mix between that 70s show and brooklyn nine nine plus delicious looking donuts, one of the best shows i've watched this year.
