Having taken time or taking time

Hello,

What is the correct grammatical form:

1) Thanks for having taken time to listen to

or

2) Thanks for taking time to listen to

Thanks :)!

  • Neither sentence is grammatical because of to at the end. There is no phrasal verb to listen to. :)

In BE I would be more likely to say Thanks for taking the time to ?? But having taken the time is not wrong.

Thanks for your answer. The message will be delivered to an american person. I don't see where is the mistake in "to listen to"? Also, is "the" before "time" compulsory? I've seen many results with only "taking time to". The complete sentence is:

"First of all, thanks a lot for taking the time to listen to these songs."

This sentence is correct since listen to has to be followed by an object (here these songs). In your original sentence you would have to say time to listen to.

I said that I preferred taking the time in my reply. The the is not necessary, but taking the time is found more often in BE at least.
