Is the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse a Good SUV?

Yes, the 2023 Traverse is a good midsize SUV. The Traverse impresses across the board, with a long list of standard tech and driver-assistance features, plenty of passenger space in all three rows, a potent V6 engine, cavernous cargo room and a smooth ride. It’s not perfect though. The Traverse can be tough to maneuver in tight spaces, and the interior is drab and filled with hard plastics. Still, the pros easily outweigh the cons.

Should I Buy the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse?

The Traverse is worth a look if you’re interested in a three-row SUV that delivers on comfort, interior space, standard features and decent engine performance. While the Traverse can be upgraded with luxurious options, the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade offer more upscale and attractive interiors. If you need something that’s more capable off the beaten path than the Traverse and can tow a serious payload, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a great – though more expensive – alternative.

2023 Chevrolet Traverse Versus the Competition

Chevrolet Traverse vs. GMC Acadia

The GMC Acadia, which is mechanically related to the Traverse, comes with a similar set of standard features and gets better gas mileage with its base engine compared to its Chevy cousin. However, the Acadia has a smaller third row and a slightly higher base price than the Traverse. The Acadia isn’t a bad vehicle, but the Traverse has it beat in nearly every category.

Chevrolet Traverse vs. Dodge Durango

The Dodge Durango is another three-row SUV, but otherwise, this burly Dodge and the Traverse have little in common. The Durango has a more upscale interior than the Traverse, it can tow more, and it’s available with a selection of potent V8 engines. However, the Traverse handles better than the Durango, it has more interior room, and it gets better gas mileage.

Traverse Interior: Simple and Spacious

2023 Traverse Interior Quality

The 2023 Traverse’s interior is well-built, but the cabin’s drab appearance and abundance of hard plastics diminish the interior’s overall appeal. Many rivals offer fresher interior designs and more premium build materials.

2023 Traverse Infotainment, Bluetooth and Navigation

The Traverse’s infotainment system isn’t the most cutting-edge on the market, but that’s not a bad thing in this case. It’s easy to operate and has an intuitive menu layout, bright graphics and quick response times. There are also plenty of physical controls for on-the-fly audio and climate adjustments.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth and six USB ports
  • Available infotainment features: an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging and a 10-speaker Bose audio system
  • Additional standard features: tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry and push-button start
  • Other available features: a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a universal garage door opener, a power sunroof, remote start and a 120-volt household-style power outlet

How Many People Does the 2023 Traverse Seat?

The Traverse seats eight people when equipped with a second-row bench seat and up to seven people in models with second-row captain’s chairs.

The first and second rows provide plenty of head- and legroom for passengers, and the seats are well-padded and comfortable, especially upfront. The third row is not as spacious, but it can still accommodate adults on shorter trips.

2023 Traverse and Child Car Seats

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the Traverse’s second-row outboard seats. The eight-passenger model also has a tether anchor for the second-row middle seat. All models also come with tether anchors for all three third-row seats.
