Ikaika Kahoano and LMNT

LMNT was an American boy band that was active from 2000 to 2003. The band’s original lineup chose the name from contest entries solicited by Teen People magazine. It began with three singers (Ikaika Kahoano, Bryan Chan, and Mike Miller), all of whom had competed in the 2000 series Making the Band (which had resulted in the creation of the boy band O-Town).

In 2001, a pre-fame Matthew Morrison joined the band, making it a quartet; however, he left after a year and was replaced by Jonas Persch. This lineup was responsible for the band’s sole album, All Sides (2002).

Three of LMNT’s five members first met as potential candidates for ABC’s Making the Band reality show in 2000. Thousands of young men auditioned for what became the boy band O-Town. Hawaii native Ikaika Kahoano was originally chosen as one of the five winners, but he dropped out due to an unspecified disagreement.

The three decided to form their own group after being joined by fellow runner-up baritone Bryan Chan and bass vocalist Mike Miller. In 2001, Matthew Morrison, later on, the TV show Glee, joined LMNT. In the spring of 2002, LMNT headlined the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation Benefit Concert in South Jersey.

In honor of honored guest Motown legend Richard Street, formerly of The Temptations, the group performed a live a capella rendition of Papa Was A Rolling Stone. The cover of the inaugural issue of the entertainment quarterly R&B Showcase Magazine featured LMNT and Richard Street the same year.

LMNT toured the United States in the summer of 2002 as part of the Pop ‘Til You Drop! Tour, a 30-date tour headlined by A*Teens with other supporting acts including Baha Men and Play.

Ikaika Kahoano and LMNT also performed in front of large crowds at the 2002 A Time for Heroes Carnival in Los Angeles, California, in support of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. They also recorded their own renditions of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin for the Disneymania 2 CD, as well as “Open Your Eyes (To Love)” for The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack.

In 2002, the band performed at various high schools across the United States as part of a Clear Channel Communications competition, including Immaculata High School in Marrero, Louisiana. Their song “Juliet” was also featured in the Lizzie McGuire episode “Lizzie in the Middle,” in which she falls for TV star Frankie Muniz.

The members most recently appeared in a music video for their song “It’s Just You,” which appears on the Kim Possible soundtrack. At the time, Mike Miller, Bryan Chan, and Jonas Persch were the only members of the group. The group disbanded in 2003, but some members went on to pursue other interests.
