We have stayed at Canal Park Lodge several times - not in passing thru Duluth - that hotel was our destination for a fabulous time. Decor beautiful and immaculate; facilities superb; complimentary breakfast fantastic; staff friendly and helpful; lots of great shops and restaurants nearby; walks on the shoreline boardwalk beautiful! We go in the off-season for the 50% discount for Canadians. Amazing deal!

My mom and I last minute decided to go on a one night trip to Duluth and we chose the Canal Park Lodge on a whim and we were not disappointed. The room was incredibly clean, beds were comfortable, great workout room, great breakfast and service. Staff was pleasant and kind. We planned on leaving early but were having such a good morning relaxing in the room and hotel (watching boats on the water, drinking coffee, reading by the fire) we ended up staying until near check out time (which is a comfortable noon). Highly recommend.

We had a fabulous stay for two nights while attending a wedding. Three couples and all agreed it was one of the best stays we have had. Comfortable beds, quiet rooms, great breakfasts, and the views are amazing. The Canal Park Brewery next door makes this an awesome place to stay!

We love going to Duluth and staying at Canal Park Lodge. Compared to other hotels in the area, they are reasonably priced, and the location is fantastic - right on the boardwalk. They have complimentary s'mores and a fire every evening to enjoy. They have bean bags out back to play, and the free breakfast is the best you can get for a hotel - the cheesy hashbrowns are great! They also provide free appetizers in the evening along with a cash bar.

The rooms are always clean and comfortable. You are given ample pillows and they are very soft. Highly recommend! P.S. Did I mention free brewed Caribou Coffee is available in the lobby all day?!

I had never been here and was surprised by how amazing this place was! It's big and and really beautiful! The common areas - a couple of huge and attractive lobby seating areas - are so comfortable. There's a wonderful patio with fire pits and gorgeous lawns beyond right at the water's edge. There's a nice little bar set up in the evenings with affordable drinks, and a great complimentary breakfast. The room (king, water view, with a balcony) was stunning and huge. And the pool area is just great. It was over the top - we loved this place! I would love to spend a whole week here!

I was pleasantly surprised by the room's size, the staff was really friendly, and the location is gorgeous. The view from our particular room wasn't great, but the hotel is steps from Lake Superior. Very easy access to the Lake Walk, a nice board-walk walking path along the shore. Downtown Duluth is really walkable and lots of restaurants and gorgeous scenery very close by. We were in town for a concert at DECC and walked to dinner and the show without issue. The beds were ok, not great, and if you're able, I would say bring your own pillow because the ones provided aren't great.

Staying one the rooms with the lake view, we were amazed every morning by watching the sun rising at the room. What a way to appreciate the natural beauty! Room is spacious, and bathroom is clean. Walking distance to anywhere you need for a nice vacation. It's one of the highlights of our circle tour of Lake Superior.

My family and I booked a set of 3 rooms for my Mothers retirement gathering. I was the first one to check in, and was given room 115. The room smelled musty almost like a strong BO. I was given another room (109) with the same smell, only not as strong. When I was given another room the staff indicated they would have housekeeping check the room I was first assigned. 5 minutes later after I received my room, my brother arrived with his family and they were give the room I checked out of. I am not normally a fussy person, however this odor was strong. The room was not fit to be occupied by anyone else, yet they gave it to my brother. He was given another room as well, since the odor was still very much present.
In addition to the smell there were screaming kids in the room next to us, all hours of the night. Keep in mind I have 4 kids under the age of 14, and know what it is like to have kids. However these parents did not mind that the rooms next to them did not have a peaceful sleep.
Bottom line i would stay at any of the other locations in canal next stay, and avoid this one.

Thank you for your comments. I apologize for the experience you had. I see we upgraded your brother to a suite we had available for that night. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us make improvements where needed. Regarding the smell in your room, this is not a typical issue at our hotel. I apologize that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been. To help us retain your loyalty please contact me at jpaquette@canalparklodge.com so I can respond to you directly.

The lodge is a lakeside hotel with a pebble beach, located at the beginning of the Canal Park. Has a large parking lot. Adjacent is the Canal Brewing Company where you can find the standard brew house food and some interesting beers.
The lodge is a medium-sized hotel with approx. 120 rooms. Rooms are spacious, interior in brown colors. The better rooms have a balcony and lake view, overlooking Lake Superior. The balconies, however, have no sun, as the lakeside is to the northeast.
The rooms have fridge, microwave and room safe. WiFi is good.
The closet is very small and without lighting. We had only four hangers. Bathroom ok, but no shower gel.
Good pool and a small fitness center which covers basic needs. Slightly rusty dumbbells. No wall clock.
Breakfast on standard level for 'free, hot breakfast' plus waffles.
As it was busy during our stay, the breakfast room was quite messy, dirty floor and tables were sticky.
Staff was friendly.
What we didn't like we're the people coming dripping wet from the pool and use the elevator. Not a nice sight.
Also, to our surprise, we were charged for the safe in our room, $1.50 ++ per day. Kind of odd.
All in all an ok hotel with some areas which can be improved. In the season quite pricey though.

This property is located right on Lake Superior next to a walking trail, a beach, and with brew pubs on both sides. It is one of best locations with shopping, bars and restaurants and very scenic attractions within walking distance. They have tried to give this place an up north lodging feel. There is a great complimentary breakfast until 10:30 in the morning, free Caribou coffee and cookies in the afternoon, and a cash bar with a small free snack in the early evening. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and modern. We were pleased with everything and will most likely return.
