ABC has confirmed the end of its hit sitcom The Conners, which will come into effect after its upcoming seventh season.

This news comes after its former cast member Roseanne Barr was spotted looking unrecognizable during the red carpet appearance for Mr. Birchum.

Following the premiere of The Conners, which was the reboot of her self-titled show, Barr was fired for her racist comments about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett.

As a result, the series was rebranded and Roseanne's character was killed off before the first episode aired.

However, after six years the sitcom will come to a bittersweet end for its cast including those who have played their characters since 1998.

Unlike its past installments, season seven of The Conners will reportedly be shorter and only consist of six episodes.

The main cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson, are expected to return.

As well as the official renewal, ABC has released a “farewell season” promo, which leans into The Conners‘ history that spans the two shows.

Following its recent milestone of airing its 100th episode, Roseanne becomes a rare comedy franchise to produce two series that have reached the breakthrough.

“You’ve been part of this family for years,” the promo says, mixing footage from both shows. “After six seasons, be there to say goodbye.”

Ahead of the show’s renewal and subsequent cancellation, Deadline asked The Conners showrunner Bruce Helford if season six would mark the show's end.

Helford teased: “We’ve got a final episode that may be one or the other. We love it,” and called the episode “unexpected” and “emotional.”

Thankfully for fans, this wasn’t the case although they will have to wait until for an official release date before its seventh and final season.
