Thursday 1st December. The Dome. Whiskey Myers. It’s back to the Dome for the third time this year and we’re live on Live nation’s YouTube channel. It’s the old gang of Messrs Cade and Berry tonight and we’re looking forward to some good old fashioned Southern rock and roll.
We first saw Whiskey Myers in February supporting Cadillac Three and so were stoked to see them again for a headlining show. I won’t rehearse my previous post reviewing their support slot.
Opening the night with the title track from their 2014 album ‘Early Morning Shakes’ it sets the scene for the evening of no nonsense blistering rock with tracks evenly spread from their last three albums.
Lead singer Cody Cannon whose voice is somewhere between Ryan Bingham and John Fogerty is the perfect front man exuding the right amount of cool to the proceedings.
Tonight’s it’s a battle of guitars in a Fender v Gibson ‘axe off’. It’s Cody Tate on the Fender and John Jeffers on the Gibson. They trade licks and solos all night and while a close run thing Jeffers and his Gibson just edge it. With his flamboyant fret and slide work it’s a real treat.
What I like about Whisky Myers is that they have an authenticity. They are not as raucous as Left Lane Cruiser, not as polished as Blackberry Smoke and not as derivative as Cadillac Three but they take the best bits of all three.
Highlights tonight for me are ‘Hold On’ and ‘Wild Baby Shake me’ and the two hours literally flew by.
Keep on Southern rockin y’all
Whisky Myers are as country as they come and are absolute masters of their sound. Hailing from Texas the group have really begun to stamp their mark on the country scene with their most recent album ‘Early Morning Shakes’ coming into the country charts at number 10. Its on stage though, where this band really starts to shine.
Driven by the incredible voice of front man Cody Cannon, a voice that is splitting at the seams with passion and emotion, the band have no trouble entertaining audiences wherever they go. Handing ballads and rocky numbers with no trouble, the band entertain with their classic sound and brilliant musicianship. There is some quality guitar work on display with soulful solos sliding their way over the thick pocket groove laid down by the rhythm section. Led by Cody’s enigmatic presence and with a confidence and charisma about them, they own whatever stage they are on. If you are after classic country vibes, catchy songs and some great musicians definitely check out Whisky Myers – they are only going to get bigger!
As always, Whiskey Myers delivered an awesome and memorable performance at The National in Richmond, VA. It was a great atmosphere with a very nice and friendly crowd of fans. The opening act of Bishop Dunn was very good, I really enjoyed their performance as well. Easy parking and access the the show. All drinks were priced reasonably and had a wonderful selection of beers to choose from. Beer is my preference.I would, without question, go there again. And I also recommend this place and band to anyone wanting a great time to remember. Thank You so much!!
Great night and I always know the Ritz will be good as it's a great venue in Manchester any how the inbiciels were good for a support act could believe the covered motorhead ace of spades then whiskey Myers came on looking come fident and smashed it with sipping into there big back catalogue then moving into the new stuff but they had the crowd jumping me included love seeing them and every band I like live hope they come back soon but it was a top night with top music and a great atmosphere...
Great show from start to finish.
Door staff were very professional and courteous which was very reassuring given recent events.
Buffalo Summer kicked off proceedings with a lively set warming us all up nicely, well done lads.
As for the main event, wow just wow! So much energy, so tight musically, the 2 plus hours just flew by. Guitars, violin, drums, keyboard, harmonica, vocals, all tight and on point. If you only see one band this year, you'd better make damn sure it's Whiskey Myers.
I was at my first Whiskey Myes Show on 13.5.2019 in Munich.
Location was nice and cosy . Quite unusual Stage that the audience can access on two sides. Support band: The imbecidels was absolutely horrible! I understood they wanted to shock but they were just crap.
Whiskey Myers:
Fantastic musicians all the way through! Guitar duelling at its best! Awesome Voice!
Only sad thing was that Nobody from the band interacted with the People. Esp. Cody was a bit cocky at times...
Great show and great venue. The only complaint I have is that the mic was setup for the lead singer to be very close to it so when they really started rocking out and moving around you'd miss about half the lyrics. I know most all the songs anyway so it didn't bother me that much, but it was something I noticed. I'd say they are definitely worth going to see if you like their sound.
since I moved from Oklahoma I've been waiting to see you guys,I made it to the Wind City Shakes in Chicago this year at Burnham, Harbor.I was in shock to see you on the Nashville Stage and not on the Main stage,in Oklahoma i'd have a hard time getting a ticket to your concert smh,you guys were great.I'm excited to see you n Stoney in Peoria Saturday.
I discovered these guys a year ago. I was so excited to see them again a year later. Their songs are so real and sometimes painful. You can truly see their passion for displaying life thru music. Oh, and the cowbell that makes an appearance in every concert just seals the deal on becoming a lover of Whiskey Meyers.
It was my first ever concert,it was so much fun. It was in a small venue holding about 300.the opening band was awesome. Whiskey myers was amazing.the band played nonstop .even hungout with fiddle player and lead guitarist and the bass player for a few minutes after show .
