Former Red Sox All-Star Kevin Youkilis was heartbroken to hear the news of his ex-teammate's passing over the weekend.

Taking to social media on Friday night, the two-time World Series champ shared a photo of the one of the men responsible for helping break "The Curse of the Bambino," first baseman and outfielder Dave McCarty. Along with a touching message:

"You never know when it's the last time you will see someone," Youkilis said. "Grateful to share an amazing 04 Reunion and a flight back home to the Bay Area with Dave McCarty. A great father, husband, teammate, and friend. Thank you Big Mac for teaching me how to be a Big Leaguer! #04WSChamp."

McCarty spent more than a decade in the big leagues with the Twins, Giants, Mariners, Royals, Devil Rays and A's before making his final stop in Boston.

McCarty suited up for the BoSox from '03-'05, including 89 games for the legendary 2004 Sox team that came back from 0-3 down in the ALCS and eventually swept their way to Boston's first World Series title in 86 years.

As sad as his passing is, at least his teammates can take solace in reliving such a special moment with him at this year's home opener. May he rest in peace.
