Log in issues persist

My first review was ages ago, and issues remain over a year later. Having the password expire due to inactivity is an asinine way to deal with security — the worst thing for password security is making people constantly change the password, making them more likely to forget it and just pick something stupid and easy in frustration. The app’s password reset buttons do absolutely nothing, neither the option to send an email nor to answer a security question. The email never comes and putting in the correct answer does nothing. So resetting requires going to the website, and while the website accepts long passwords, the APP has different standards than the website and will not accept a password longer than 15 characters. Why is it different from the website. Why accept the longer password on the website if the app won’t. How is this basic thing still not working or consistent between different interfaces.

It still won’t let me log in and just sends me back to the login page. It’s not the password being wrong bc it works on the website fine. There’s no way to give feedback on the app or ask for help when on the login screen, so I’m doing it here. Previously I had had an issue where B&N kept looping between asking me to confirm my email address and the link they sent going to an page saying it had expired, even when it had just happened seconds before, over and over. Lots of login issues all around.

We are aware of an issue where the password reset emails are not being delivered and a fix is in the works. In the meantime, try using the 'Forgot your password?' link via the mobile site or on a desktop. When resetting your password, please adhere to the following requirements: Must be 8-15 characters, contain at least one capital letter, contain at least one number, be different than your username or any previous passwords. Really Crappy App :(

So I just signed up for B&N rewards, I did so in an actual location, it was a fairly easy process in store. I was told I can link my card to the app and shop online, so what did I do ? Download the app with excitement to link my rewards card and irresponsibly spend my money on books. BUTTT like anything in this world I ran into problems I could not log, after what felt like years but just an hour I finally was logged in and set to go ape wild with book purchases. I began to use the “wishlist” feature as I have tons and tons of photos of books I want in my photo album labeled “TBR”. It was fantastic until it wasn’t the app began to slow and glitch. Although somewhat hesitant I continued on with searching book titles and adding it to my list. After maybe a half hour, if I am being gracious with the time, the app stopped working completely. I give it a rest as I felt guilty making it work hard looking for books, today, a whole 24 hours later I am completely kicked out of the app. Unable to link my rewards or do any book searches I am deleting this from my phone and NEVER downloading again. I should have read the reviews before downloading because this was truly disappointing.

Needs work

Update, same rating.

I don’t get logged out every time, which is good. But, today I tried to place an order to be paid for and picked up in a store. First issue that was that it wouldn’t let me use the gift card attached to my account. Then, when I tried to pay with the credit card attached to my account, I got a message that said there was no email attached to the order, which of course is not correct since I was logged in. I was able to place the order with no problem on the website, so I can only assume this is an issue with the app and BOPIS.

I know others have mentioned this, but the logging me out every time is a pain. The website doesn’t do that. The website at least remembers my email so I can log in using Face ID for the password. The previous cafe app allowed me to stay logged in, not sure why the technology from one couldn’t be transferred to the other. It’s easy enough to navigate, but the website is better at this time due to the log in issue. Edit. I sent this before and was told it was fixed with an update. Since this is still an issue, even when trying to use the app multiple times in day, my question is how do I know if my app is up to date?

Glad to hear that you are no longer have issues staying signed into the app. Sorry for the difficulty you experienced placing your BOPIS order. Should this issue happen again on a future order, please try signing out of your account on the app. Force close it by swiping up or to the side, depending on your device. Open the app and sign in again. If the issue persists, uninstall/reinstall the app.
