Biography

Elizabeth Pabodie, daughter of William Pabodie Sr (abt.1620-1707) and Elisabeth (Alden) Pabodie, (abt.1624-1717) was born 24 Apr 1647, in Duxbury, Plymouth Colony.[1][2][3] She was the grandaughter of Mayflower passenger, John Alden.[3]

Elizabeth Pabodie married John Rogers, in Nov 1666 at Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts.[3][4] John, born about 1640, was the son of John and Anna (Churchman) Rogers. John remarried in [21] Oct 1679 to Hannah (Hobart) Brown (1638-1691) daughter of Rev. Peter Hobart and widow of John Browne. He married a third time 22 March 1692/3 to Marah (Cobham) Bruning/Browning (1652-1739), daughter of Josiah and Mary Cobham, and widow of Joseph Browning.[3]

A merchant, John lived in Duxbury, Boston, Taunton, Swansea, Bristol and Barrington. Bristol and Barrington are now part of Rhode Island. 27 Oct 1681, as a resident of mount Hope Neck in New Plimouth, he deed his daughter viz. Hannah, Elizabeth, Ruth and Sarah (all under 21) land in Saconet. The daughters and their husbands, James and Ruth Bennett of Roxbury, Silvestr and Elizabeth Richmmond of Little Compton, Samuel and Hannah Bradford and Nathaniel and Sarah Searle, deed the property back to their father in 1694 and 1696.[3] [ Bristo LR 1:247 1:377, 2:14, 112 4:84] In 1701, John of Boston sold land in Little Compton to son-in-law Silvester Richmond.[3] [Bristol LR 33:190]

Elizabeth (Pabodie) Rogers died between the birth of daughter Sarah, 4 May 1677, and her husband's second marriage, [21] Oct 1679.[3]

  • William Pabodie, Elizabeth's father, had an estate of £407. He left the land to his sons (some after wife's decease), and left his daughters, Mary, Mercey, Martha, Ruth, Sarah, Hannah, Lidia (also received a pair of green curtains), the heirs of Elizabeth and the heirs of Rebecca only one shilling each.[3][9]
  • John Rogers died intestate. The widow and the two daughters refused administration. 30 Aug 1732, grandchildren Peleg, Perez and Ichabod Richmond, Nathaniel Fisher, Ephraim Atwood and Peleg Heath, petitioned that their brother William Richmond be allowed to administer the estate, their aunts, Mrs. Bradford and Mrs. Searles, having requested that one of the family assist. The estate had a lengthy controversy accusing the widow of embezzling.[3] [ Plymouth PR 1:249, Bristol PR 7:404; MD 20:5-10]
