While Aamir Khan was born into a family deeply rooted in the Bollywood film industry, he embarked on a distinctive path of his own. Widely known as “Mr. Perfectionist” for his unwavering commitment to his craft and his social initiatives, Aamir Khan has consistently set himself apart from his peers in the industry.
From crafting socially relevant movies like Taare Zameen Par to hosting a show, Satyamev Jayate, dedicated to addressing pressing societal concerns, Aamir Khan has consistently embodied the essence of “Mr. Perfectionist.” This reputation may well be one of the reasons why he has chosen to keep his distance from award ceremonies, which typically draw the entire Bollywood fraternity.
Numerous reports suggest that Aamir’s conspicuous absence from award shows may be linked to Shah Rukh Khan, although neither actor has officially commented on this matter. Surprisingly, during the initial phases of his career, Aamir Khan actively participated in award functions.
In 1992, he even had the honour of presenting the Best Actor award to Anil Kapoor for Beta, while himself being a nominee for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. The following year, in 1993, he received a nomination for Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, but it was Shah Rukh Khan who clinched the award for Baazigar.
The tipping point occurred in 1995 when Shah Rukh Khan once again secured the Best Actor award for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, despite Aamir Khan’s remarkable performance in Rangeela that had earned him widespread acclaim that year.
According to a report by Bollywood Life, Aamir Khan began to believe that the awards jury displayed a bias towards Shah Rukh Khan, leading him to make the conscious choice to abstain from award shows.
Since 1995, many of Aamir’s films have received nominations, and the actor has even secured accolades for movies like Raja Hindustani, Lagaan, and Dangal. However, he has consistently refrained from attending award ceremonies to receive these honours in person.
