Cameron may have made it out of Monday’s Stitchers season finale relatively unscathed, but if the Freeform drama returns for a fourth season, he’s in for a world of pain.
TVLine spoke with star Kyle Harris about the episode’s biggest twists, but first, a quick recap: Ivy apologized for betraying Linus, to which he responded with a dinner invite; Camille and Amanda decided to move in together; with Stinger’s help, Kirsten was able to connect with her mother long enough to wake her up; and it was discovered, via a whole bunch of science-y talk, that Kirsten’s brain has been choosing the stitch assignments.
Then came the episode-ending doozy: The team was informed that Kirsten’s latest stitch interfered with her long-term memory, and she no longer remembers any of them — including Cameron. But after a heartbreaking conversation between the (former?) couple, a shadowy figure entered the room, eliciting this sassy remark, “I will never forgive you for what you’re making me do to him.”
Below, Harris discusses the season finale — including the twist that wasn’t in the episode’s original script:
TVLINE | Let’s jump right to the ending. What was your reaction when you read in the script that Kirsten has amnesia — or at least we thought she did?
Originally, that ending was not in the script. The episode was supposed to end with Cameron leaving and Kirsten just sitting there, not remembering anything. As we were shooting, I think we had three days left, our showrunner Jeff [Schechter] had this idea: What if someone came into the frame, but we don’t know who it is, and suddenly it goes from Kirsten not having her memory to doing a total 180 and dropping that line? That was the one-two punch I think we were missing. We’ve seen the amnesia thing. When [Jeff] came up with that idea, it blew all of our minds. Who is she talking to? What does this mean? Who is she doing this for? It’s so much more intriguing.
TVLINE | I imagine you all must have theories…
We’ve all sat down with Jeff and asked him who Kirsten’s talking to. Is it Maggie? There are so many different ways you could go with this. It has to be someone who means enough to her to do this for them. But she’s also doing this to protect Cameron. Why does she need to protect him?
TVLINE | This was a rough finale for Cameron, emotionally, but I feel like he managed to avoid too much physical damage — certainly compared to previous episodes this season.
[Laughs] I was scared! I thought I was going to get shot in that crossfire. That [shootout scene] definitely took at least half the day to shoot because there are so many little parts. As we were shooting it, me and Damon [Dayoub] were getting so into it, and Emma was just sitting there laughing at us. She was like, “You want to be in an action movie so badly, don’t you?”
TVLINE | That was just one huge moment in this finale, another being Kirsten sort of waking up her mother. Did you get to see that scene play out?
I had wrapped for the day, it was my last day of shooting. But when they shot that scene in the white room — a sort of “stitch heaven” — I was off-camera reading lines for Kirsten, talking her through the speech I gave her in the lab. And that’s when I realized, like, we’ve been on quite a journey with this mythology. It almost feels like you’re watching a series finale, like an emotional wrap-up of everything. But really, we’re just closing the door to Chapter 1 and setting the stage for Chapter 2.
TVLINE | In the interest of seeing that second chapter, have you heard anything about a fourth season renewal?
We have yet to hear anything [from the network], but we’ve definitely been hearing it from the fans. They’ve been campaigning for a fourth season ever since we were picked up for a third.
TVLINE | Going back a bit, I also loved the fistfight between Cameron and Stinger. Was that also carefully choreographed?
Yeah, you know, just your casual father-in-law fight in the middle of a government facility. I actually kept getting in trouble because I would add my own sound effects when he punched. They were like, “We don’t need that, Kyle, but thanks for trying to save us money.” I got a little too into the action side of it all.
TVLINE | Assuming the show does get a fourth season, what would you like it to explore?
It would be cool to see how the program has protect Kirsten now that she’s essentially a weapon. If she fell into the wrong hands, [there would be consequences].. I’d also love to see the program go public, watch Maggie give a press conference at the White House. We could play celebrity for a moment, since the team is like a group of superheroes in a way. But that could easily take a turn — I could see people getting angry that we have access to all these private memories.
Time to weigh in: Who do you think Kirsten was talking to in that final scene? And what are your hopes for a (potential) fourth season? Grade the episode below, then drop a comment with your thoughts.
I LOVE stitchers please continue to season 4!!! I will literly die if you don’t!!
That word you used? I don’t think it means what you think it means.
yeah i think that word was wrong used too…
I LOVE stitchers!! Please do a lot more season s !!! I will literally die if you don’t!!😢
so did you literally die?
I think she was talking to Maggie. Maggie probably told her to lie, because them being together jeopardizes the program. Season 4 could be about that after her mom wakes up in the hospital she says something to the team. The whole season could be about them figuring it out. Just an idea?
yeah i think your maybe right all it could Maggie does lie a lot and keeps secrets to herself so maybe it would be her she’s probably the type of person to do that anyway
I think Maggie is behind the comment at the end. She was the last one to be seen with Kirsten before she told the team that Kirsten doesn’t remember anything from the last 2-3 years. Also, Maggie realizes just how much Cameron loves Kirsten, and she probably believes that it’s going to jeopardize not only his part of the stirchers program, but also Kirsten’s part in all of it. Maggie definitely has a motive to want to keep the two apart, but I really hope that Kirsten is only going along with it to protect Cameron’s future and not because she’s looking for a way out. I love the two of them together; they have a lot of chemistry, and I truly believe Cameron brings out the best in Kirsten. I hope a season 4 is in the works and that Kirsten will come to her senses and tells Cameron what is going on. I love this show and I would hate to see it get ruined!
I really doubt Kirstin wouldn’t listen if it was Maggie. What if it’s her mom?? That’d be a twist.
I really doubt Kirstin wouldn’t listen if it was Maggie. What if it’s her mom?? That’d be a twist. Also, who’s the only person Kirstin would do anything for even if it killed her? Her mom.
I think it was Cameron’s mom. He had her called in to check on Kirsten after the reverse stitch, so she examined Kirsten and warned her that she would end up getting him hurt or killed if she stayed with him, especially with the nanobots in her brainstorm, since no one knows what they might do long term…
My thought exactly Patti. I do hope they do more seasons.
That makes a lot more sense, I don’t kno what maggie would have to have on kristen for her to listen to maggie. Also i doubt its her mom kuz she wouldnt be that quick to tell her mom she would never forgive her. Camerons mom on the other hand i can see that. Also i doubt she would listen to her dad or sister at this point. cant wait for season 4!!
Totally agree
But what is the purpose of the program now? It turns out that it was pretty much all geared toward this event, waking up Kirsten’s mother. The program can continue in order to solve murders, etc. But the primary purpose of the program appears to have been fulfilled.
It was never revealed why the stitches program started. It was mentioned about it being a weapon of some kind but not what it was for the mapping of the brain was never fully achieved either.
I think she was talking to her mother. Kirsten wouldn’t lie like that for anyone, definitely not Maggie after what she has done to her recently, but maybe I guess. My bets are still on her mother!
Please come back for a season 4 this tv series is so amazing all the characters are wonderful
Standing ovations to the writers on the show, the twist and all. I couldn’t believe what happened at the end of season 3, Now i have to wait and be in suspense until next season ahhhh
My guess is Maggie. Logically, she’s the only one in a position to even ask this of Kirsten.
As for a fourth season, does Kyle XY ring a bell? (Let’s just say that I’m not sanguine about a renewal – but I live in hope…)
PLEASEEEEEEE renew Stitchers for season 4. You can’t drop an amazing cliffhanger like that and then not give us the answers!! This show is fantastic!!
she was talking to her mom… the ONLY one she cares about that much to lie to cameron!!!
Know I’m late but I just watched whole series on hulu & am devastated it ended on a cliffhanger! I agree, definitely the mother. Maybe her mother can put her conscience into kirsten outside of the stitch too now.
I just binged on Hulu also, I knew it would end like that (I looked it up) and still put myself through that!! I wish they had at least made a movie to wrap things up!
I belive it could be Cameron’s mom be a when she told kirsten that Cameron loves her, kirsten didnt reply.
So,Cameron and his mom being apart for so long, his mom might have gotten jealous and tried to get rid of her. She must be saying that it’s for his own good or threaten her mom. She might even want to keep her “little boy” to herself.
She wouldn’t say “I will never forgive you” to Cam’s mom, she barely knows the lady. She would say “he will never forgive you when he finds out what you’re making me do”. It has to be Maggie or Jaqueline. Don’t know the motive of the latter, so Maggie is best bet. Except, I don’t know why Maggie would make her pretend not to remember the whole team. If she doesn’t want her to be with Cam, then just say can’t fraternize with co-workers. It’s just plain stupid to make her pretend not to remember him or the others. So, there almost has to be another reason.
Either way, I hate this “twist”. I would have rather it actually been amnesia. Cliche as it is, it’s not as bad as someone forcing her to pretend not to remember.
i hope they make another season i really enjoyed the show a lot so please bring season 4 out we all like to know what Kirsten is up to with the pretend memory loss so please make season 4 happen we don’t want to be left for dead wondering what will happen
Agree Completely!!!
More please.
I love the stitches series and would love to see season 4.
It would be completely sad if another season is not made.
So pls don’t disappoint us fans that love the series stitches as it is a loved series by many and we want to see more so give us more!!
As it would appear we get into a good tv series it’s taken away and that’s what the fans hate.
Fantastic finale. Hopefully it will be renewed.
Great finale but this show HAS to come back for another season. As for who could possibly make Kirsten do this to Cameron? Maggie is too easy. I think it’s either Cam’s mom, her own mom or remember the high level government guy that Kirsten had to go to in the season premiere to get the team back together? Maybe it’s him?
yep those are good ideas of who it is. I agree.
It’s not Blair. She wouldn’t say “I will never forgive you” to him. She hates that guy. She’d be even nastier to him. I’m going to be very annoyed if it’s him because the dialogue does not fit. I don’t think she’d say that to Cameron’s mom because she doesn’t know her well enough. She’s be more likely to say Cam would never forgive his mom when/if he found out the truth.
Just realized you meant the other government guy. It could be him, but doubt it. She doesn’t know him well enough to say that. It almost has to be someone who might care that she will never forgive them. That indicates Maggie or one of her parents to me. I doubt it, but maybe possibly Ivy. She may not have ordered it, but her tampering with the stitches could have resulted in a scenario that made it dangerous for the others, or for Cameron.
I was not excited for this lame “Main character loses her memory” storyline and would’ve even be okay with this being the last episode, until she dropped that last line. Now i want to know why she would fake that and who asked her to do it. Probably Stinger, Maggie or Ivy.
I hope it gets renewed. I was almost a 100 percent sure that the show would be cancelled last year and the creator of the show even tweeted me back that a renewal was very likely. This year i’m kinda positive about a renewal, which i don’t see as a good sign. The ratings were kinda stable this year, but are still not very high. And i don’t know if the streaming numbers of the show are strong enough, so it could go either way.
Really? Renewal isn’t a lock and the show ends on a cliffhanger? When will these people ever learn?
My pick Cameron´s mom. She will do it if she asked her to do it without question… but angrily
I wonder if it was Cameron’s mother she was talking to at the end since she had supposedly just been with her getting checked out. Maybe she is wanting Kirsten to play like this to protect him from something… idk
I really want a season 4 cause i want to know what will happen next i was revieved when i saw that kristen actually remember an was pretending
I think she was talking to one of her parents.
I think she’s talking to either her father or mother. Her mother is back after all these years, who knows what she knows or what her agenda might be. Who knows what those nanobots in her brain may have done to her. Her father had the fight with Cameron, who knows what type of chemical or electronic device he might have put on him to force Kirsten to pretend not to know Cameron for his own safety.
I hope the show gets a 4th season, but if not, I hope they do a 2 hour movie to tie up the loose ends and giver everyone a happy ending (I’m schmoopy like that).
Each season just gets better and better..we MUST have a season 4 !!
I think she was talking to Maggie’s boss. PLEASE RENEW THIS AWESOME SHOW!
im thinking the person behind makeing kirsten pretend to have amnesia is maggie. maggie has had us questioning since the beginning weather she was good or bad.this would be the best way to show she is the enemy.i mean maybe she wanted to be with stinger or ed and kirstens mother got in the way. we know maggie worked with kirstens mom and ed so its possible.
I was hoping this was a Mid season finally?? so are we going to have to wait a year for season 4??
