6 Years After Conviction, Man Nabbed With Drugs On Same Road In Vernon

It was a moment of deja vu for Vernon police with a traffic stop on Vernon Avenue.

VERNON, CT — A man convicted of drug possession in Vernon six years ago has been arrested again, police said. Vernon police this week released details of a traffic stop that turned into a sizable drug bust later last month.

According to an incident report, on April 24, a Vernon Detective conducted a motor vehicle stop on the 100 block of Vernon Avenue after encountering a speeding violation.

During the course of investigation, drug paraphernalia was visible inside the vehicle, police said.

A subsequent search uncovered:

  • 21.5 grams of crack cocaine
  • 7.3 grams of powder cocaine
  • 15 pressed fentanyl pills
  • 14 Oxycodone pills
  • $1,631.00 in cash

Gary Washington, 55, of Bloomfield, was charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled Substance (second offense)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession with intent to distribute
  • Operating a drug factory
  • Traveling unreasonably fast

His first offense came on Feb. 1, 2018 on the same road. That day, officers spotted a Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding on Vernon Avenue near South Street, according to an arrest report.

The operator, identified as Washington was found with 12.8 grams of crack cocaine, .6 grams of powder cocaine, Suboxone, $805 in cash and other drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report.

He was charged with operating a drug factory, the sale of narcotics, possessing narcotics, the use of drug paraphernalia, speeding and a lane violation, according to an arrest report.

He was fined $1,000 after pleading guilty to possession, court records show.
