Bo and Hope Return to Days of Our Lives — Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso Reveal What Lured Them Back to Salem
One of daytime’s most beloved couples is finally back where it belongs, even if it isn’t technically a “couple” at the moment.
Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso made their long-awaited return to Days of Our Lives on March 17 as Bo and Hope, a duo over which fans have obsessed for nearly three decades. Unfortunately, Bo isn’t quite the same man who “died” back in 2015.
“After being in cryogenics for however long it’s been, he’s on a journey to find out who he really is,” Reckell says. “A lot of people tell him along the way who he is, but he really needs to figure it out for himself. That’s the crux of the journey that we’ll be seeing in the next few weeks.”
As revealed on Friday, Bo has been successfully brainwashed into believing that his one true love is Stefano’s presumed-dead daughter Megan Hathaway. Elsewhere in the same building, Hope crossed paths with with John and Steve in their mutual mission to track down the madwoman.
The Hope-Bo-Megan kerfuffle is a direct continuation of a storyline from Season 2 of Days spinoff Beyond Salem, now colliding with the Orpheus-orchid saga of Days proper. The original plan was for Bo and Hope to return again in a third season of Beyond Salem, but according to Alfonso, everything changed when the Powers That Be moved Days from NBC to Peacock. (A third season of Beyond Salem has not officially been confirmed.)
“We couldn’t possibly leave the audience with that cliffhanger,” Alfonso says of Bo opening his eyes in the final moments of Beyond Salem‘s second season finale. “That would have been so unfair. So that’s another reason why I decided to come back. We owe it to the fans and the show, and to [executive producer] Ken Corday.”
The next few weeks will also witness the return of Steve Burton’s Harris Michaels, last seen seducing (and attempting to murder) Hope while under Megan’s control in Beyond Salem. Despite their rocky start, Hope believes “there’s still goodness” in Harris, Alfonso says. (You can get a sneak peek at Harris’ return in the promo above.)
As for whether this storyline could lead to a more permanent return for Bo and/or Hope, Reckell is optimistic about the characters’ future on Days, which was recently renewed through Season 60.
“How and when they would come back is obviously very much in the air,” he says, “but I think I think our audience will kind of demand it.”

It wasn’t the same building. That’s why Hope says at the end she wants to meet with Harris, so they can pump him for info on where else Megan might be.
I’m more excited for Paul and Andrew than I am for Bo and Hope.
Me too! I hope they join the regular show beyond just this storyline and help fill the gap left by Sonny (and somewhat Will though he was occasional) leaving.

Bring back Zack and fans will go wild. Anyone can come back from the dead in Salem so why not Zack.
Can’t wait until Bo and Hope are back on the screen as a couple reunited with all of the Salemites! Also I think it would be great to have McKenzie Westmore on the show for Rafe, those two also have wonderful chemistry!
This is a temporary return, they are not staying permanently.

The Stefano actor passed on also, but it didn’t keep the show from bringing Stefano back in Patch’s body. The show could easily bring back Tom and Alice in younger bodies, if they really wanted, with some mumbo jumbo of how Rolf or Stefano or someone had captured their brains or put them on a CD or something stupid (yes, they actually did that once) before they died and Rolf was now restoring their brains in new bodies. They have done that before and can do it again.
Hopeless is still a terrible cop. She claims she searched the entire building & didn’t find Megan. She didn’t find Bo, either. Not happy to see the actress after the way she left, proclaiming she’d never come back. I guess only landing a couple of little parts changed her mind. I hope Bo stays but Hope doesn’t.

And the actor playing Bo left because he was unhappy with his amount of screen time. But yeah let’s attack the woman for leaving because she wasn’t happy but be totally cool that the man did the same thing.
Peter Reckell left to spend time with his daughter because he was missing out on a lot with her growing up. I can completely understand. He is an older father and wants to cherish every moment he can with his only child. I commend him.
Loved seeing Bo and Hope back on Days!! I do hope they will be sticking around. They are a power house couple like John and Marlena and several others on the show. Hope immediately gelled with John and Steve, but it’s evident Bo has been brainwashed and is being controlled, so it will be interesting to see the power of the Bo Hope love story bring him out of that in the days ahead. I can’t help but wonder if Steve or John will relapse into Megan’s control as well or just what their presence will involve once they all meet up in the building. It’s getting very real with them coming back!! I have been a DOOL’s fan for close to 4 decades. While yes some story lines are outrageous (like the devil possessing so many in Salem) but the show has had many funny and memorable episodes, plots and story lines and has been around a very long time. Cudos to the writers, or actors/actresses and the entire crew for the continued outstanding job!!!!
I too have been a fan for 47 years and love many of the storylines some have been far fetched like the satan possession but for the most part I love it. I was watching when Bo and Hope zoomed off on the motorcycle when she was about to marry another that was awesome. Happy to see them back
Reckell and Alfonso will always agree to make return appearances – neither one can land a paying acting gig anywhere else. Couldn’t possibly care less about those two. However, I am thrilled to welcome back Ciara and Ben with much anticipation. I most want to see Paul and Andrew as new full-time residents of Salem (love them)!

Unemployment. It was unemployment that lured them back to the show.
At the same time, Peter Reckell lives outside California. I don’t see him relocating to work in Days on the regular.

I think Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso will make other returns down the line when a story needs the characters of Bo and Hope and they could be like Alison Sweeney’s returns.That way the show only has to pay them for when they need them.For example when the show deals with Victor’s death since Bo is his son i could see Peter Reckell coming back for Victor’s funeral if only to honor John Aniston.
I’m so glad to finally see bow back I was wondering if it would ever happen. Everybody else could be returned from the dead, but our favorite bow was left cold we thought in the grave glad to see he finally made it back on the air. I really missed him.

I am so excited to see Bo and Hope be back on. It really wasn’t the same without them. Now I’ve been a fan over 40 years but it really wasn’t the same. I am so HAPPY they are back. Even if it is for a little while since Bo is retired and Hope is on a different soap opera. I am still Happy to hopefully have a happy ending.
8 years ago I was devastating to see the “return of Bo” meant less than 48 hours with Hope.
And this year, it looks like that’s happening again. I’m not going to survive it!!
