Any experience with "Nice Film Lab/Club" in Brooklyn, NY?

Film Labs

Hi everyone,

I've been trying out a couple of budget friendly film labs in the eastern US for develop & scan services. I stumbled across Nice Film Lab and they seem to offer a great service, but i wasn't finding many people talking about it. Anyone have any experience with their develop/scan offerings? you essentially pay for 10 rolls upfront ($10/roll) then any additional rolls are also $10 for the next year.

My usual "go to" labs are Memphis Film Lab and Gelatin Labs. Memphis has great pricing for standard JPG scans. Gelatin is probably a better product(Tiff scans), but they tend to be a little pricier. Was curious if NFL could be a "middle" option.

Edit: I am not in NY. I would be mailing my film to them.

Thanks!

Hey there, a little late to this but this post just came to my attention!

I'm the founder of Nice Film Club. I just wanted to make a point about the Tiff scans. We actually scan all your negatives on top of the line HS-1800s in the highest possible resolution in 16Bit TIFFs.

We provide the 2K version of the scan to you but actually store the underlying 16bit 4k 180mb scan in archival cloud storage and allow you to retrieve it at just 99c per frame ($1.49 as a non-member) after you've actually seen the scans. We're the only lab out there doing this - at other labs you have to pay a significant premium upfront before you even know what's on your roll.

Of course that's just 1 feature of many that you get by using our service!

If you have any questions - feel free to ask away.

  • Can you scan 120 film with borders?

  • Do you do any manual adjustments to the scans or is it all auto?

Looking forward to trying NFC!

We can scan 120 with the black borders but not wide enough for the rebates.

We do color correction, orientation and spot checking on every frame that we scan in!

We cannot, the HS-1800 scanners can’t scan that wide. You’d need either flatbed of DSLR scanning which are both less consistent.

What happens to the negatives? Is there a cost to ship back negatives?

u/joshsgman avatar

Yep we can ship them back for $9.99 . Otherwise you can pick them up if you're nearby. We'll keep them for 6 months and confirm with you before tossing otherwise!

Edited

Is that $9.99 per roll? Wish I lived nearby! Any plans to open up a location in SF Bay Area? :-) thanks for the quick response.

Have been using NFC for a few months now and love it. Amazing service + really great platform for viewing/sharing developed photos. They really care about the details. Honestly pretty amazed at the quality of experience at this price point.

Go to photodom in Brooklyn!
