Robert Alan Krieger, born January 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, is a musical performer and The Doors guitarist. He attended UCLA. “The first music I heard that I liked was Peter and the Wolf. I accidentally sat and broke the record (I was about seven). Then I listened to rock ‘n’ roll – I listened to the radio a lot – Fats Domino, Elvis, The Platters.

“I started surfing at fourteen. There was lots of classical music in my house. My father liked march music. There was a piano at home. I studied trumpet at ten, but nothing came of it. Then I started playing blues on the piano?no lessons though. When I was seventeen, I started playing guitar. I used my friend’s guitar. I didn’t get my own until I was eighteen. It was a Mexican flamenco guitar. I took flamenco lessons for a few months. I switched around from folk to flamenco to blues to rock ‘n’ roll.

“Records got me into the blues. Some of the newer rock ‘n’ roll, such as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. If it hadn’t been for Butterfield going electric, I probably wouldn’t have gone rock ‘n’ roll.

I didn’t plan on rock ‘n’ roll. I wanted to learn jazz; I got to know some people doing rock ‘n’ roll with jazz, and I thought I could make money playing music. In rock ‘n’ roll you can realize anything that you can in jazz or anything. There’s no limitation other than the beat. You have more freedom than you do in anything except jazz – which is dying – as far as making any money is concerned.

“In The Doors we have both musicians and poets, and both know of each other’s art, so we can effect a synthesis. In the case of Tim Buckley or Dylan you have one man’s ideas. Most groups today aren’t groups. In a true group all the members create the arrangements among themselves.”

Most people know Robby Krieger as the consummate music artist in his role as former guitar player and songwriter of the legendary band The Doors.
What shouldn’t be surprising is that creativity has no boundaries and many times artistic expression will spill over into more then one medium for the artist.
Robby Krieger is no exception as demonstrated in his creation of a collection of spectacular, never-before-seen works of art…now available to art lovers and Robby fans.
Now, through the charity services organization, ART FOR A CAUSE, limited edition, giclee prints of his beautiful paintings will, for the first time, be available to the fans of Robby Krieger.
“I hope my paintings brings joy and love to art lovers for many years to come.” – Robby Krieger

The Doors will always be remembered, Robby. You're a great songwriter too. 🙏🎸

Thank you for so much music over the years Robby Krieger I feel the same way even though I haven't been at it nearly as long as you have. I also haven't achieved the same amount of success, but i'm hoping someday my luck might change. Sending you best wishes from Tampa Bay Florida!

The best.

We are glad ya did, too!

The best merci beaucoup

Also being in THEE COOLEST band in rock n roll history is quite an accomplishment too. 🙏😁

Very deserving and what you give back to others is another one of your amazing talents. 🙏🙏🙏

You are very gifted with guitars 🎸 You definitely chose the right path in life ,and it made you famous .You have kept your music alive all these years while most venture off and do other things .We enjoy your music ,and it never gets old .

And we are all so very grateful that you did pick up that first guitar...it changed your life but also the lives of so many others around the world who have been personally moved by the music you've created. I think I probably speak for a lot of people when I say, "thank you for picking up a guitar"! 🎸

Thanks! I was lucky enough to see you and Ray.

Thank you Robbie, your music changed my life!

When were you at The Troubadour Robby?

Indian Summer ! I Love that song Robbie!🙏👍❤️🎉

Dear Robby if you find your way to Europe please come by Copenhagen, Denmark 😀 there are alot of people how would love to see you work your magic 🎸🎵🎶 best regards a huge fan 🤘 and keep on rocking

It seems like you've had an Incredible Journey so far. Thank you for your Amazing Musician Contributions. Your Music is quite Inspiring. Rock On Robby Krieger.. 🎵🎸🎤🎶🚪💜

Robby YOU ARE LOVED! THANK you for showing us all the kindness respect and schooling us all with the best ROCK N' ROLL.

I’m sure many of them thought the same playing with you

Your truly talented guitarist Robbie I'm watching the doors at the super bowl 1968 brilliant Jim's making words up as goes along he's funny I love him so much

I love that you have consistently played the SG. Are there other guitars you gravitate towards? I don’t play the guitar but I used to sing and took interest in the different tones of various guitars and styles of playing. I’m glad you’re still doing it!!!

Thank you Robby! first time i've heard "hello i love you", Robby Krieger , i was 13 years old and i've started to love the Doors. then i was impressed by the sublimely guitar line on Spanish Caravan, the power of your riffs on "break on through" and "you make me real ". how you play on "when the music's over" makes me dream!!! and i love so much "easy ride " also. Here in Rome, my band and I, can't resist to play your magic music. i would like to meet you Robby, greetings from Italy

I was listening to the song 'Waiting For The Sun' yesterday & really digging your slide work!

This could have been The Doors ... Feast of Friends" Doors cover band playing right now at the Colony in Woodstock New York.

Your guitar sound really resonated with my brother and I growing up in the 80’s. We were between Cheap Trick, KISS and my brother discovered you guys, Pink Floyd and other greats. I was in my teens The Doors sound will always be legendary along with your guitar sound. Saw you guys at Molson Park as The Doors of the 21st Century with Ian Ashbury and Stewart Copeland on drums. It was fantastic!

One of my earliest recollections as a child was watching the Doors on TV!

Mega Robby! Thanks for all the great guitar 🎸 work! 🙏🏻

Love You Robby ❤️🎸🎸

It’s sold out. Otherwise, I’d buy a ticket right now.

@RobbieKrieger, you need Mike Griffion on vocals at this show!!!!

Love that man

Robby when are you going on Joe Rogan i feel like you could share some insane stories

love that album

This is strange. Just this morning I was thinking that Robby's Doors band should play The Soft Parade in its entirety in a show or three. So this was a shock. Great news!

That is great! Think you’re one of the great guitarists!! And you have a really warm accepting personality!! Thank you for giving us your self and your musical beauty, as part of my life. I feel with the quality of music the 60’s up into the 90’s is great to be part of a persons life

I wish that I could go but it’s 80 miles away ,and I don’t drive down to LA or Hollywood anymore .My friend is not well ,and I just stay home due to foot, back and neck pain .I love the Soft Parade and the Doors.

I really really want to go it's a few days before my birthday too I don't think I have a vehicle can make it that far though my car is not in the best shape

Great! When do you come to belgium?

It's a bit far from Australia. Will you spring me for a ticket. To LA that is, .. I'll pay the entry fee. Lol.

Sounds amazing. Wish I could be there. (Scotland is a bit far away) 😪

My wife and I will see you in Chicago. Hopefully some deep cuts from Soft Parade will be on the setlist. Also would absolutely love to hear The End and Mosquito!

Who was the guy that sang with you before the Echo And The Bunnymen show at the Darker Waves festival, Nov 18th last year? It was fantastic, thank you so much! I was front row in front of you!

Awesome I wish I lived near! Love the vibe the Whiskey has its perfect!

Have a great time everyone. I really enjoy playing your stuff Robby. All the Best Sir.

That sounds like an excellent show! While I was not able to catch the Doors in concert, I am glad that I’ve seen your show before and that I was able to see the late Ray Manzarek!

Have FUN and knock ‘em OUT! 😎

Awesome, Robby Krieger! I know you guys will knock 'em out & have a great evening. I hope someday you will come up to the Bay Area. Much love to you.

I'll hopefully be seeing you in Nashville., be great if you could come up to Kentucky as well.

I wish I lived in CA! I would definitely be there. Hope you can bring that show to Philadelphia one day!

Lookin Good Robbie! What an album one of my favorites!

You look great, Robbie! Wishing you bushels'n bales of a good time at the Whiskey!

I was introduced to The Doors in the early 90s as a young teenager and have loved the music ever since! In fact, I was listening to a Doors playlist last night while cooking dinner. You're an absolute legend Robby and your music made a huge impact on my life! Thank you <3

🎸 I love this blue Les Paul so much, it
just has a great sound!

I originally started on a 1964 Gibson SG special. Do you have a favorite guitar?

Comment on Facebook

My little Washburn has a nice sound and is easy to play

Robby just keeps Rocking everyday, his music and THE DOOR'S music will live forever. What an awesome guy Robby is.

Do it Robby, do it!

My Gibson SG Modern, and my Fender Stratocaster Ventira II, and even my Fender Jaguar

SG is the best guitar in the world, and The Doors have the best guitar sound in rock.

Great sound ! My ideal is one of each.. .a Stratocaster, Les Paul, Telecaster and a 335.

Those Are Great My favorite is Gretsch G 6120T Dark Cherry Stain

Beautiful Les Paul..my favourite is my 330/12.

I got many guitars and love them equally, congrats for your book I've really enjoyed.

I have a Gibson copy archtop.

Maybe my modded ‘79 Fender Lead 1, but I’ve been playing a few short scale Gibsons and they’re growing on me, so much easier to bend strings and warmer tone.

My favorite guitar is anything you are playing!

The one and only Robby❤️

Playing without a pick is awesomeness

My Japanese Blue Flower 68 Fender Tele reissue - its a joy to play.

I don't but I do have a question for all you guitar buffs. My 9 year old girl wants one for her birthday. What's the best to get a kid just learning to play?

Any guitar sounds good in Robby’s hands. 🎸

I’ve bought many guitars over the years but my old Les Paul is always my go to.

Great sound but too picky and heavy for me, id say c neck stratocaster but hey id never taste a d so what would i know… good vibes good Times 👍👍double thumbs

My Cadillac Guitar

Love ❤️ the Doors People are strange

I don't know about favorite....all my favorites except a few I have had and sold long ago...every guitar has a mood that fits what I like at a given moment.

Before Lindsey Buckingham ...Robbie is such an underrated guitar player and songwriter..

Yes, way better than the Batman SG

a beauty. I was friends with Les. Lived near him in Mahwah New Jersey
